Terrible cartridge and canister quality

I bought this filter last fall to use in my RV. Since then it has worked as long as I can keep the canisters sealed to the body of the filter. That in itself is hard since it’s only one flimsy o-ring to handle that job. I’ve had the hard scaling filter (or whatever it is) break on me three times now. At a little over $50 for those filter cartridges, it’s not acceptable that it’s constantly breaking. But what’s worse, is I set up my trailer yesterday, went to a friend’s place for supper and a visit, and came back to a flooding trailer because one of the canisters was pouring water out. And yes, I empty the canisters every time I’m in transit so the weight of water isn’t bouncing around, damaging the system. I know that I’m now past my return period, so I guess I’ll just throw this junk in the trash and replace it with something of better build quality. Sometimes you have to experience something to know what you don’t want. But hopefully as you’re reading this, you’ll heed my warning and just buy something else, so you don’t need to learn the lesson the hard way too.

No, I do not recommend this product.

Q: We are on a boil water advisory.  Can this system substitute for the need to boil the water?

  • A: No I don't suggest that, only if you have an ultraviolet light system to disinfect the water. Look up UV water purification.

Q: Two questions. 1) Is the plastic supply line a 1/4" inch tube or a 3/8" inch tube... 2) does the spigot go straight up and then curve or does it go up a little bit, then bend slightly and then curve. I see two different spigots in the photos.

  • A: 1) it uses a 3/8 tube 2) i didnt use the supplied spigot. But its seems to go straight into the curve

Q: Hi i have installed the rainfresh undersink drinking water system 2 model UCS2. I just had my water tested and it is still showing bacteria ecoli. How can this be eliminated???

2 Answers
  • A: Is your water source a well, a spring or other natural source? I use mine only on municipal water. You may need a more robust system to eliminate ecoli completely, depending on the levels your are encountering. I would contact Rainfresh directly at https://rainfresh.ca/contact/ to review your issue. They will probably want to know the ecoli levels pre and post filter in order to advise properly. Good Luck

Q: Does this filter leave in beneficial minerals like magnesium and potassium

2 Answers
  • A: Thank you for considering Rainfresh System 2, a great choice for potable water for your home. This unit does not remove minerals from the water. It traps and kills pathogenic bacteria (such as E. coli), removes parasitic cysts, lindane (pesticide), chlorine, bad tastes and odours. It also reduces sediment down to 0.3 micron, leaving all the essential minerals in the water. If you have further questions , please feel free to call us at 1800 667 8072 or (905) 884 9388, Mon to Fri 8:30 AM to 5:00 PM EST. Thank you again for choosing Rainfresh.

Q: Does this reduce the sulfur smell you can get in well water? And does it do anything to reduce calcium?

  • A: Sulphur smell not sure dont have that smell in our water. Calcium reduction a little bit but it's still there. Completley eliminates the smell and taste of chlorine though. Eliminates iron aswell. As a whole very pleased with the rain fresh system

Q: Why is it I get higher metals ppm after filtering? 174 before 200ppm after. I'm using a zero water test device.

2 Answers
  • A: Hi Jacob, it seems you are using a TDS meter which measures the ionic content (minerals/metals) of the water. Please note that a TDS meter is used to measure the performance of reverse osmosis water or demineralization systems because these devices are designed to remove minerals. It cannot measure the performance of filtration systems that are designed to reduce non-ionic contaminants such as chemicals, pesticides, volatile organics, bacteria, parasites etc. Therefore, the efficiency of undersink filtration systems (non-reverse osmosis) like the Rainfresh UCS2 (621001) cannot be measured by a TDS meter. Hope this answers your question. If you have further questions, please feel free to contact Rainfresh technical support at 1800-667-8072. Thank you!
