Buyer beware!

Read the return policy carefully and save yourself time, money, and frustration. I bought this to boost an 8-cylinder gas pickup (as advertised it could), but it failed to do so. I tried returning it after one use — charged it once, attempted one boost — but they refused because it had been “used.” Trust the other reviews and don’t waste your money. Do not rely on this product in an emergency situation.

Power Box

This particular box did not hold its charge overnight even when not in use. I returned it with no problem getting my money back. I had the same power box in the past that worked great

Defective - They Didn't Want it Back

Buyer beware. I purchaed a unit that wouldn't hold a charge. Two stores refused to take it back just after seven days. The first one said it didn't stock the item therefore wasn't obligated to take it back. Second store (and where I bought it) said they have a strict policy on taking them back despite no signs or anything mentioned on my receipt. Didn't appreciate the Customer Service run-around here. Why bother selling them?

No, I do not recommend this product.

So far so good

Bought this for tent camping and a backup battery booster. I liked the fact that you can charge it of a battery as well. Have only used it a couple of times. Bought it on sale so the price was right. So far satisfied with it.

Q: How long does it last for? How many hours do you get before it runs out?

  • A: I fully charged mine over 6 months ago. I've boosted with it 3 or 4 times and it's still holding charge

Q: Can this portable power pack act as a backup for a pellet stove when power failure

3 Answers
  • A: It depends on the power consumption of your pellet stove but, directionally, only for a short time 30-60 minutes perhaps, so not really practical. Of course, you can extend runtime by connecting the power pack to an external battery.

Q: Will this power my CPAP machine and if so for how long?

  • A: Hi there, yes, the moto aster powerboxes will run a cpap machine no problem, as long as you don't run the humidification function on your cpap. I have had sleep apnea for five years, and I have camped every summer for weeks at a time using a motomaster powerbox for my cpap. Actually, I've been using the same battery pack for the past five years, and no trouble at all. I say go for it!

Q: i was wondering where is that switch it is talking about ? i dont see that switch in the unit. 'Be sure that the jumpstart switch is OFF" and in the other part it say after use always switch off the boosting power switch .

3 Answers
  • A: Depends on the model. My small Powerbox 600 does have a large red knob on the end of the case to enable Boost mode. With this switch in the OFF position, there is no current from the internal battery to the clamps. This is a safety feature to prevent shorts and possible fires in the event the clamps came into contact with each other. The larger Powerboxes have, instead of a switch, a circuit which detects even very low battery voltage. When the circuit sees a voltage, it activates one or two large relays in the box which allow current to flow to the clamps. Look at the clamps on these boxes and you'll see a small-gauge wire along with the booster cable clamped inside the insulator. This is the feed to that circuit. As with the switch, this is to prevent disastrous effects from shorted clamps being driven by hundreds, possibly thousands, of amps, even for a few seconds.

Q: how can I get a replacement AC adaptor? My adaptor no longer works (more than 1 yr old) and I need a new one for my 800A Powerbox. It outputs 13.5 volts/1000mamps.

  • A: Not sure about Windsor, but in Toronto I'd go to Active Surplus on Queen St. West, and hunt through their diverse selection of adaptors. The adaptor jack on the powerbox is pretty standard.

Q: The battery charging status indicator only shows zero...even after charging, it doesn't change. I haven't had it a year and only used it sparingly. It was showing 100 and after using it overnight, it was at zero and after recharging never changed

  • A: most likely the charging cord or plug charge for about one hour, then plug in a small appliance like a small lamp if it really does not work, bring it in for testing I've had mine for over 3 years without a problem good luck!

Q: Had my 600w for 3 years. Worked great for the first 2 years and now I plug my cpap machine into it and 25 mins dead. Not sure if I can do any thing with it or not??

  • A: 3 years is probably average lifespan for the battery, and the battery is proprietary so opening it up and replacing it with a different one is difficult. In case you weren't, be sure to charge up the battery every 3 months when it's not being used, and never let it sit depleted for any length of time. This will help extend its lifespan
