Q: re. Industrial Lite 8 ft fibreglass ladder--is it rustproof? Obviously the fibreglass is but I'm wondering about the grommets that hold it together. I have no space in the house to store a ladder nor do I have a garage so I store it behind my garden shed which is too small for an 8ft ladder. I have the ladder covered with a taupe but it will be damp there. Is this OK? Thank you.

A: Some ladders use stainless steel or aluminum rivets, and some don't. I know I have one class II foldable ladder that spent the winter outside, and it hasn't rusted. You can verify what pieces are steel and might need weatherproofing with a magnet, if the magnet doesn't stick, it definitely doesn't need it. Otherwise you have to assume the worse and weatherproof it, or wait for the first signs of rust and act then.
