Dangerous

DANGEROUS!! DO NOT BUY! The power cord goes inside the casing right into the fan.. I couldn't figure out why my fan was making a noise when it's brand new.. inspected the back and noticed as I moved the power cord, the noise kept changing. I put a flashlight to it and noticed the power cord goes right into the fan and touches the blades.. this could have burned my shop down or possibly electrocuted me had I not noticed

No, I do not recommend this product.

Q: How much amperage does this draw? My garage is wired on a 15 amp breaker, do i need to upgrade the wiring?

8 Answers
  • A: My 15A breaker would trip multiple times per usage. It was also dedicated (I used the dedicated receptacle for my central vac in my garage). I ended up running a 20A circuit to the garage and have had no issues since. So TL;DR it will work but it will likely annoy you. Having the breaker trip mid-weld is rage inducing.

Q: Instruction manual says not to use on anything thinner than 18 gauge. My sheet metal for body work is 22 gauge. Will this work well on it or will it burn it?

4 Answers
  • A: I've had this welder for about a year ... just welding little things here and there, nothing overly fancy or technical. As the others have said, 22 gauge is thinner than 18 gauge. I've been able to weld 22 gauge sheet metal, but it is very dicey because you can easily blast through. It's fine for doing some quick tack welds. In terms of running a bead, I've had some luck on the lowest voltage and a slightly higher than recommended wire feed speed so I can move at a faster pace. But I'd recommend doing quite a few practice runs before moving on to your actual work piece.

Q: What's the Part# for the Gas Fittings? I've seen it asked a few times but the response is typically a yes it can be bought or call a number. What's the Part# for the gas hookup fittings? Be nice to see price/availability before buying the welder.

  • A: Don't worry about part numbers, wherever you buy your flow meter and gas from will probably be able to supply the proper fittings. The flow meter comes with a proper gas hose to connect ton the welder. I trimmed a short piece of the internal hose off of mine to ensure I had the proper connection and also replaced the installed fitting for a more robust one. The connection hose to the gas tank that mine came with was completely useless.

Q: Does this do aluminum welding? How thick?

3 Answers
  • A: If you’re serious about aluminum be trained and a good welder. Also spent a couple grand and get the right tools for the job. Aluminum welding requires high frequency. This is a buzz box. This is entry level.

Q: Can I weld aluminum with this welder?

3 Answers
  • A: I have welded aluminum with this welder, it doesn't look great and you need to mess around a lot with settings and wire thickness but it is possible in a pinch. Requires argon or argon/helium gas. Do not rely on it as your main aluminum option, AC tig or a welder with a spool gun will be much more repeatable.
