I have yet to install this Bike lift. But it fits the bill of what I need to store a couple of bikes.

it works great! although the handle on the rope was a bit tricky to figure out we finally did it

Straight forward and easy to find in the store

Simple to use and store the bike. Inexpensive

Everything's great but the rope

Used to suspend a kayak, not a bike. (The hooks work fine on the kayak's end-handles.) Good construction, works well - but the included rope is a little too slippery and stretchy to comfortably haul on. (It tends to slip and cut in to hands.) I bought slightly larger diameter nylon rope instead - works great.

Q: How does it mount ?

8 Answers
  • A: The directions explicitly say "Use the four screws and dowels supplied. They are suitable for mounting on concrete ceilings only". CONCRETE. There is NO mention of wooden beams at all. I noticed this question above was from 10 years ago. I think they have changed their model. It comes with FOUR screws now. This is very confusing and potentially risky. ---> Can I use the current 4 screws on wooden joists?? <--- One the of the answers above says "...the 10 screws that come with the product..." There are only FOUR screws. That answer must be from an OLD model?? I bought today, Nov 12th, 2019 Canadian Tire. Burlington, On.

Q: what is the maxinum weight it can handle?

  • A: The box says 44 lbs. These answers are old I think and from a different, older model. This is a safety issue! Update the product info and questions!

Q: Can the ceiling be higher than 12'? This Is regarding the Mastercraft Ceiling Bicycle Lift, Product #46-8212-0. The description states: •Ideal for garages with ceilings up to 12' My garage ceiling is 16' high. Is that a problem? Thanks!

  • A: No, due to the length restrictions of the cord it cannot be mounted on a ceiling of 16' high.

Q: I own one of these but it has a problem where only one pulley will come up or down at a time. Any suggestions to fix this? One end of my bike will lower or raise when I use my pulley while the other end will stay still until the first end is finished being lowered or raised. I thought that the two ends were supposed to come down at the same time. How can I fix this?

  • A: This happens two ways: 1) When the cord comes off one of the pulleys and jams between the pully and the housing. You will have to pull the string back into the pulley's groove which will likely require a ladder the first couple of times. Once you get the hang of it you can reset with an adjustable pole or a hockey stick. 2) The rope is twisted against itself creating too much friction on that side. Removing the hook from the bike and twist it back in a strait line.

Q: What is the actual, up-to-date (Oct '23) breaking strength of the supplied cord? 44lb, 20kg is listed many times, but the wire core nylon wrapped line that came with mine is obviously much stronger than that.

Q: it was easy to raise to my 12ft. ceiling not easy to lower... how do you release the lock from the ground

  • A: Pull on the cord to release the locking mechanism. Keep tension on the cord and slowly let it slide through your hand(s) as the bike lowers.

Q: Can someone explain the purpose or proper use of [7] securing hook on mastercraft ceiling bicycle lift? The operation instructions explain once the bike is at the lifted height to attach the securing hook but when I go to retract bike the hook obstructs.

2 Answers
  • A: There are two hooks.  The bottom-mounted hook and the top-mounted hook.  The bottom hook is to loop the rope coming down from the bicycle, then up to the top hook.  The top hook is to latch the end of the rope so that it stays in position.  BOTH hooks need to be clear of the rope when retracting the bike.

Q: The video shows that this is secured using a wall cleat, I bought 5 of these and there is no wall cleat. There is a very small hook, we are instructed to "attach the securing hook to the bicycle rack". Our bikes don't have racks, neither does the one in the video.

2 Answers
  • A: You are correct, there is no wall cleat, and the Canadian Tire Team answer is absolutely useless. The small hook (part #7) cannot be attached to the back rack or the wheels of a bicycle when it's raised near the roof in a garage with 12' ceiling, because you can't reach. If I could reach that high, why would I bother with a pulley system in the first place?!?! Also, the picture on the box, and the video, do NOT show the hook being attached to the back rack or to the wheels of the bicylcle. Both of these sources indicate that a cleat is needed, which is not included with the product, forcing a return trip to Canadian Tire or another hardware store! This is at best false advertising, and should be remedied immediately!!! Pull this product from the shelves until it's ready to sell!
