    Insufficient heat

I wasn’t able to heat the small electronic tab sufficiently to melt the solder. I don’t know whether I got a defective unit or the model is just pathetically weak.

No, I do not recommend this product.

Intéressant pour certaines tâches, mais peu être moins efficace sur de petites pièces parce qu'on est loins de la pièce à cause de la poignée

    hot little number

This soldering iron is very handy if you plan to do any electrical soldering project. The compact design and pistol grip make it very comfortable to use compared to the old straight style. Having the cord come out the butt of the handle is also nice to eliminate the cord coming out of the back, If you have used the straight style before you know what I am talking about. This is a excellent compact soldering iron and is a must have.

    Great for small jobs

This iron is great for small jobs - i.e. mostly electronics. I tried to use it at my work as a technician repairing harnesses, etc., but found that the wire would take too much heat from the iron. It's just not powerful enough for such work. Worked great for circuit board repair tho!

Q: What solder and flux is r squired for stainless steel

    1 Answer
    • A: There are many different alloys of stainless steel and it is difficult to distinguish between them. To solder, most require a high content Silver Solder and a strong flux. Further, GENERALLY, you will need a higher wattage Iron or Torch to solder stainless depending on its mass and alloy. We need more information to make a proper recommendation.

Q: What gauge wire would be the best to use

    1 Answer
    • A: The answer is not straightforward as there are many variables such as what composition of wire, what is melting point of solder being used (ie tin/silver, lead, tin lead, etc. In GENERAL, 18g is the appropriate largest wire size although 16ga should work fine.

Q: is this a right tool for occasional repairing of metal jewlery? I mean chains, necklaces etc. Not gold or silver, just metal. Or is there a better tool for this job?

    1 Answer
    • A: This tool would work fine for Jewelry repair however most people doing jewelry repair and crafting prefer a pencil type soldering iron for more precision. So as an alternative, you should consider 58-6301-2 which is pencil style AND gives you the option of 2 temperatures. If you are soldering jump rings, etc. the lower setting will be sufficient.
