Apart from missing a thread or mounting point in the top side where you are supposed to secure the burner with two small screws, this burner is not really very well constructed for outdoor use. If you are trying to keep a steady flame, so that it doesn't get blown out by every single, small gust of wind, you have to crank it to a point so that anything put on, is getting torched. I find it very challenging to dial the output to any level that would allow to cook something for more then 10min without overboiling. The hose that comes with the burner is so short that it cannot even reach a bigger bottle without putting the bottle right next to the flame.

Q: Would this be ideal for canning foods? I will be purchasing three of them, setting them up in a line and making a custom made stainless steel tub to boil many jars in. Need to know if three in a row can provide enough heat to get the water to full boil.

A: Don't think so as fitting is different from regular propane tanks. If it did work it wouldn't last long!

Q: Would it be decent for boiling sap in a large stock pot for long periods of time for syrup making?

A: Yes, but Never use a cooking vessel larger than 76 qt (66 L), with a diameter greater than 18 3/4” (48 cm) and taller than 16 1/2” (42 cm). A BIGGER VESSEL MAY RESULT IN TIPPING. If the temperature exceeds 400°F (200°C) or begins to smoke, immediately turn the burner or gas supply OFF and wait for the temperature to decrease to less than 350°F (175°C) before relighting burner according to instructions manual.

Q: Does this burner have a timer? Some burners have a safety timer which cuts off fuel so that you have to keep lighting the burner every 15 mins.

Q: What's the smallest diameter pan and/or pot that can fit on top of the burner, please? What's the minimum diameter in inches the pan and/or pot has to be to rest stable on the burner? Thanks!

A: 9 inches would be the absolute minimum, but 10 inches to be safe. We boiled down our maple sap in a 10" diameter stainless steel pot.
