Cheap piece of junk

As far as reading temperatures goes it's not exactly instant and takes a while to get to the final reading, but that's not my main problem with this product. I bought one for BBQ season in 2015 and didn't use it more than about five times. It didn't receive any ill treatment and wasn't subjected to any extreme temperatures. Come 2016 and with BBQ season approaching again I've just taken it out of the cupboard where it has been stored and it's not working. Replaced the battery- still nothing. Checked the old and new batteries with a multimeter and both read 1.5V, so I can only conclude that it has somehow died while stored away. Given the light use it has been subject to and that it has sat untouched for months, I can only assume that's down to it being an inferior product. Save money in the long term and buy a better model in the first place.

This is not instant read

It looks like the more expensive (and infinitely better) Thermapen, but it is NOT instant read. If that's what you're looking for, move on. Otherwise, it's a decent thermometer if you're patient and can stand the heat of the BBQ while it slowly gets to the temperature.

Good Thermometer for the price

I bought this thermometer as a cheap backup to keep laying around if needed. I tested it in both the boiling water test and cold ice water test with the result of both coming in around 1 degree lower than what it should. Good for a cheaper thermometer. I used it while smoking a chicken and temp was good, read time takes a little longer than I would like but cannot complain about this thermometer for the price
