The rodent trap I have opens at both end, but I find the trip works better with only one end open. I place a few peanuts at the closed end and I've managed to trap six red squirrels in seven days. It works great!

Purchased the 6x6x16" model to deal with a grey/black squirrel problem. As another reviewer mentioned, what is on the shelf is not exactly what is illustrated. See photo attached to this review. Had to file some burrs off the two trip rods where they contact each other so that the door would trip easier. (Two horizontal arrows) Took to using a metal twist tie threaded through the two holes in the trigger pad (two vertical arrows) to fasten a peanut in the shell to it so that the critter would have to pull on it rather than being able to delicately pick it up and get away.
An entire colony of chipmunks had to be relocated before I could catch a squirrel though, as the chipmunks were much more aggressive about approaching the trap. Once they were gone, 2 squirrels a day for 2 days. Problem solved. (At least for now)

Bought this yesterday July 26 - picture shown is not the same as the actual trap. Put out trap, caught the chipmunk within 2 hours. Relocated chipmunk. Kept trap out overnight, caught a squirrel, also relocated it. So it does work. Used shelled peanuts and sunflower seeds.

Great for Squirrels

I just bought one of these to catch squirrels trying to break into my place for food.. Within the first hour I captured two and transported them to the country. The next morning I caught a 3rd and transported it to the country. These three were causing me concern as they were almost finding access into my place. The trap works very well and no creatures were injured.

A: The trap doesn't rust so I plunge the whole trap in a large bucket of water. If people quit feeding the darn rodents (squirrels) I wouldn't have to trap them to begin with. They carry disease and cause $$$$ of house damage. The black squirrels are not normal to Alberta.

A: The 16 x 6 x 6-in trap is not large enough for most coons. They actually roll it around trying to get at the bait if the trap isn't fastened down. Select a larger model that is recommended for raccoons. As far as the wire mesh goes, I'm sure it's strong enough.

Q: Pigeon? I have a pigeon problem on my balcony. We put up chicken wire the whole way around to keep them out, but 1 managed to find a way in and now apparently doesn't know how to get back out. Do you think this trap would work to cage and then release her?

Q: raccoon trap I found a "folding animal trap" product number 75-4401-4. Would this product be suitable for trapping a raccoon? I was told you carry the "have a heart" trap. Do you have anything like that?

A: That trap seems pretty small to me and unless your racoons are really small it probably won't work. We have and use the larger trap 75-4403-0 at $79.99 and it works perfect on large racoons. The Havahart trap looks exactly like the models sold here.

Q: How do you release a skunk

A: We recommend the following steps to release a skunk. Carry a blanket in front of your body, covering your shoulders to feet. Approach the trap slowly and steadily, shuffling your feet. Speak softly or hum so that the skunk is aware of your presence and is not surprised by any accidental sounds or movements. Gently drape the sheet over top of the trap. Skunks do not typically spray things they cannot see. Handel the trap gently and move it slowly.
