As advertised, the way to get your fire started without solvents. I use charcoal for the flavour and don't want my food tasting like lighter fluid. Downside: these electric starters do not last forever and are a bit expensive, plus the element and handle are in a strait line, a better design would have the two angled at a 30 degree angle - not the easiest to bend the element to make this useable.

Q: can it be used with ceramic briquettes?

A: No...this electric starter is intended to start charcoal.. Ceramic briquettes absorb heat from other heat sources (e.g., gas),e which in turn heats the ceramic briquettes which in turn cooks your food.
