The DEWALT DWE6423K 5-inch Variable Speed Random Orbital Sander features a 3-amp motor with speeds from 8,000 to 12,000 OPM. The separate counterweight and rubber overmold grip help to minimize vibration for comfortable use. The compact design of this sander allows for closer sanding, and the one-handed locking dust bag helps with dust collection. This DeWalt sander can also be attached to other compatible DeWalt dust collectors.
Dust-sealed switch to protect against dust ingestion for longer switch life
Shorter height allows the user to get closer to work piece
Rubber over-mold in all of the critical areas of the sander for comfort and control
Dust port is designed to fit directly to the DWV010 or DWV012 dust collectors; to attach dust port to other vacuum systems with 1-1/4" hoses, use DWV9000 Universal Quick Connector

A: I would not use this for smoothing out drywall putty, it is best for use on harder surfaces like wood. For drywall you should use a sanding block and your hands. There are many tutorials online for how best to smooth drywall. Good luck.

Q: Does the manufacturer recommend attaching a shop vac (or other large vacuum cleaner) to this device?. Is there a risk that the suction from the vacuum cleaner will cause the spinning fan inside the sander to over-speed and burn out its motor windings?

A: No – but that means the onboard dust bag will not collect any dust. So users can use either 8 hole paper or non-hole paper.

A: There are a lot of different sand papers that can be used in an orbit sander. Its depends on what grit you’re after and this is determined by what type of job you’re doing. For example paint stripping (low grit) versus finish sanding (high grit). For this sander you will need any 5” 8 hole sand paper. Remember, the lower the grit the rougher the sand paper.
