    Sturdy, compact and functional

I have purchased two of these, and tested them thoroughly under different weather conditions. They are very sturdily built, quite compact, and function properly. Note that these are panels only. The box does not include a charge controller, and the attached wire is fairly short, although it does include a quick connect/disconnect. You will need to wire them into your own system (such as an RV or boat) yourself. Do a bit of research and planning regarding what else you will need, e.g several feet of 14 gauge wire, some wire connectors (such as butt connectors or marettes) and a charge controller (an inexpensive controller will work fine with these panels). The panels I got in my box are of the monocrystalline type, although the box only states "crystalline", so it's possible that future boxes could contain polycrystalline panels. I tested the panels in wet, rainy conditions for a couple of days, and they are weatherproof. Understand that the wattage rating given for virtually every solar panel is a BEST CASE value that most people will rarely, if ever attain. I've found that my panels put out around 15 watts each under sunny conditions, but I live in Whitehorse, and with the higher latitude, the sun is lower in the sky. Try to orient your panels so that they directly face the sun, in order to get the most power, and you may get between 50% and 80% of their rated power. In shade, expect maybe 25%, in overcast and rain, maybe 5-%10%. I do recommend these panels. However, know that they are panels only, and also that you will not likely achieve the rated power, so if you need 30 watts, then buy two of these, or a more powerful panel. This is not a knock on this particular panel; that's just the way solar panels are... their power ratings are maximum power under ideal conditions which are rarely achieved. All in all, this is a very good product, and I recommend it at this time (although I have not had the panels for long, so I cannot comment on long-term durability). Be aware, though, that solar panels in general are continuing to get less expensive, so try to buy panels when the are on sale.

    Yes, I recommend this product.

    Cut Short

So the cable that is included with this panel is about 6 inches long and has a quick connect cable on the end of it. The "required" charge controller does not have a quick connect and in fact in the manual it tells you to strip the wires and connect them that way. I have still yet to find adapters so I don't have to cut the wires to the panel I just spent $100 on, so I'm not terribly impressed with this purchase. I have not tried it yet, but I hope it performs well to make the purchase at least worth it, because I can't really return it after I've cut the thing.

No, I do not recommend this product.

    excellent product

I use this product and other products similar to charge boat batteries, and run solar systems in my house. I think the green energy or solar department at Canadian Tire is excellent and the products perform as indicated. They are plug and play, easy to use, and can be combined to increase the overall wattage output to charge battery banks, etc. Some solar products come with a variety of connectors which are useful to create a combined solar array, to supply energy for a solar powered system. I am completely satisfied with the solar products sold at Canadian tire and will continue to purchase solar panels and related equipment there as I increase my three solar systems in our home to run more appliances and lights, as well as power electronics on the boat.

    Yes, I recommend this product.

Q: Why is this 30 watt panel smaller than the 25 watt panel The 30 watt Coleman solar panel is smaller than the 25 watt Coleman solar panel. Is the 30 watt panel over rated for watts?

    1 Answer
    • A: We have tried to minimize the overall footprint of our panels with each successive generation. This fits with most hi-tech industries, the newer the model the more power for a less size. What we offer is the latest most efficient cell structures to provide an increase of power but maintaining a size that offers a multitude of applications.

Q: what is the charging rate in ideal conditions?

    1 Answer
    • A: The Coleman 30 watt Crystalline solar panel operating under ideal conditions will charge at 30 watts, 16-23 Volts DC and 1.75 Amps. Crystalline technology does require full overhead sun to operate at peak performance, but you will still receive a lesser charge under less optimal conditions.

Q: Poly or Mono? Is the panel a mono-crystalline or poly-chrystalline product?

    1 Answer
    • A: My panels are moncrystalline. However, the manufacturer seems to be moving to the less expensive polycrystalline structure, so it is possible that some boxes could contain polycrystalline panels. Good quality polycrystalline panels perform quite similarly to monocrystalline panels, regardless.
