Upgrades to remote site solar system

Added 2 x 100 watt “Coleman” solar panels to existing 6 panels. These two oriented for early-day and late-day sun and tilted more vertically to better capture winter sun energy. Existing 6 panels appear robust and tolerate extreme winter weather at my remote location. Added 2 more 12v batteries to existing 4 units to provide better “surge discharge”.

Q: Can it charge lithium ion batteries?

3 Answers
  • A: Only with the correct charge controller.  A solar charging system is not complete without a charge controller. The charge controller takes the energy from the solar panels or wind turbine and converts the voltage so it's suitable for battery charging. ... Note that 2.40V/cell for lead acid and 4.20V/cell for lithium-ion are the full-charge voltage thresholds

Q: Is this solar panel compatible with a camping trailer that is wired for Camp Solar.

  • A: Yes you could but you need to get a connection.A 400 W is better than a 100 W otherwise you don't get enough power.

  • A: AIr conditioning is 120 volt. Would need AC power or big enough genny. I have a “magic fan” above bed. Works great pulls air in or out on thermastat works off 12 V DC. The solar panel helps charge batteries.

Q: Has anyone used these with Lithium Ion battery?

2 Answers
  • A: I am considering switching mu cottage solar to Lithium Ion batteries and the literature and YouTube videos on it, indicates that it is the charge controller that will need to support the type of battery you are using. I have several of these panels and they can be used with the controller I recently purchased for that purpose.
