Good product but needs improvement

I have this bench for over a month now. The material and build is very solid and not flimsy. I could use the bench press with 6' bar although it doesn't fit perfectly. This crutch width is made for 7' bar but again kind of works with 6' bar too. The leg extension is useless same goes for the preacher curl arm pad that was not useful. Some other people may find those extension working for them but not for me! I am happy with my purchase because I need this for bench press and squat otherwise I'd have given not more than 2 stars.

Yes, I recommend this product.

Death Trap

collapsed into decline after only a few uses. Almost dropped weights onto my face, at least the rack held up and caught the bar

No, I do not recommend this product.

Excellent rapport qualité/prix

I bought a week ago. I was a bit worry about the state of the content as the box was all ripped off and damaged, with a few small hikes here and there. But the content in an excellent state. A few minor scratches, as one might expect when the box get roughly carried around (when you buy it at the store, it already has an history to tell). It was exactly what I was looking for. I had the bar and the weights, but no bench. In this COVID-19 crisis (gyms closed everywhere - one needs to keep working out), it was not easy to find a store with relevant supplies. Canadian Tire had a few (very few) inventories. I travel some 440 kmt - round trip - to get to one store that has one in stock. Contrary to what some bad reviews said, the bench lies complete flat. I use the red safety catch to sit the bat when I bench press and it works perfectly well. Only one minor drawback (with doesn’t prevent me from using almost the full potential of the bench), one of the parts of the bench has been not been welded straight - it lies at a 15 degree angle - which bugs me quite a bit. But as a whole, it is a great product. Especially if you got it at a discounted price.

Yes, I recommend this product.

Poor Quality. Keep your receipt!

Bought this in January of this year. The holes in the bench have stretched causing the bench to sway and go into decline when supposed to be flat. Was told 90 warranty but it actually carries a year manufactures warranty so keep your receipt for when it starts to break. Using under the weight capacity.

I bought this set a couple of years ago and it is amazing. I weigh 235 pounds and I am bench pressing 400 pounds. The set is awesome and I highly recommend it

Q: Can you do squats on this HomeGym?

  • A: Yup. Just be careful loading the weights, I'd suggets loading the smaller weights first, evenly on each side, to minimize changes of the far flipping as you add a large weight to each side.

Q: Can Alex Cast Iron Weight Plates be used with this?

4 Answers
  • A: The leg-extention bar will fit both 1" and 2" plates. The rack will hold an olympic (2" bar) fine, but doesn't hold a standard 1" bar evenly. It'll sit off-centered and not be safe.

Q: What exactly comes in the Box? I am assuming since it says 2 piece that it only comes with the bench and the bar catch you have to buy the leg press and Preacher Curl attachments separately and if so where do you find them as I cannot find them on the Canadian Tire website at all.

  • A: It comes with an adjustable bench which has a removable preacher curl attachment and a leg extension/curl attachment. That's probably considered one piece. The second piece is the stand which can be adjusted so that you can either do bench presses (various types as the bench adjusts) or squats. There isn't a leg press attachment nor do I think you can get one. Maybe you meant the leg curl/extension attachment?

Q: Maximum Weight Capacity? Can you please check the booklet or with the supplier and find out the maximum weight including user for this bench?

2 Answers
  • A: Max 300lbs user weight for the bench, This is a no brainer 300lbs includes weight being lifted, I recommend using blocks to brace back of bench with any amount of weight. The 600lbs is the amount of weight which can be put on the uprights, this also does not feel safe to me because the uprights are only connected at the bottom and there is play between the poles telescopic movements. With slow controlled movements, extreme caution, wood blocks under the bench, and uprights in a lower position ( eg. for squats) I wouldn't go higher than 200lbs.

Q: is the 40 in. crutches measured from the exterioror interior of the crutch?

2 Answers
  • A: i just put mine together and measure it to be 41 1/16th inches from the outside of the crutch. but if i were looking at a bar, i'd probably want another 1/16th or two for "breathing room" when putting the bar back down.

Q: can you do forearm preacher curls on these?

2 Answers
  • A: Yes, though the bar that holds weights for the leg-extentions may get in the way. If you take the one bold off, and turn it upside down, it won't. That'll take a total of maybe one minute.
