Faulty batch of paint cans

The concept is great and it would provide safety to road users and pedestrians in low-light/nighttime conditions, but this batch of spray paint cans at the Bentall St. location in Vancouver is faulty. I followed the instructions to a T but the reflective coating did not coat surfaces properly. I got maybe 3 - 5 decent sprays from the can before the paint started coming out like a sludge. It didn't dry evenly and caused the surface to be less reflective. Less than 20s of spraying later, the paint was basically just expelling the clear solvent and next to no pigment. I thought it was just one defective can so I went and exchanged the spray paint THREE more times, but all of the products failed the same way. The silver metallic paint for hard surfaces was a disappointment and kind of ruined my project as it started eating away at the glue of my painter's tape, and into the base coats of paint below. Prepping the plastic (sanding, air blasting, wiping) that I was painting did little to help with paint adhesion. I also tried the clear non-permanent spray paint for textiles, but both of the two cans I tried did not have a proper seal at the top and started leaking everywhere upon use. Fortunately, the product manager was nice enough to allow a return of the faulty products, and the customer service employees took down notes about the defects.

No, I do not recommend this product.

Q: How long does one application last? If you wash your clothing, will the reflective spray wash off?

1 Answer

A: How long Albedo100 Reflective Spray adheres depends on several factors. The main factors are if the sprayed surface is exposed to mechanical wearing, what material you have sprayed on, and the amount of spray. Under normal conditions and wear, the spray usually sticks to e.g. jeans for a few days. Since the effect is gradually worn off we recommend that you control the effect continuously and add more spray if necessary. When you wash your clothes, the spray will disappear completely which means you have to repeat the procedure.
