Rod tip broke twice

I this Fishing rod 2 years ago, models sps662m. The tip broke off once and just happened again. More specifically the last rod guide. It is partially my fault since I reeled the reel up to the weight but this hasn’t happened on my other 5 rods, the weight and sensitivity are top grade. The brand is great, not the model

Great Sensitivity

Purchased one on sale as I liked the "feel" in store. My first trip out I was so impressed I returned and bought two more. I have literally caught hundreds of large Walleye and Pike on this rod over the last 2 years with no problem. Locktite the handle screw as it will loosen over time, reel is dependable and smooth. Rivals my St. Croix for sensitivity. I use them steady in my boat for Swiss and German tourists thru the summer. Wish I had bought more for spares but then I have had no problems.

Best rod ever?

Seeing as there is not one comment about anybody buying this combo at full price, I'm led to believe that this is a decent entry level rod. I have not had a chance to take it out on the lake yet, but I did take the reel apart to see whats inside. The gears are metal, the housing is plastic and the drag system is... adequate. i found that the plastic cap that holds the handle tight requires some attention because it tends to loosen as you crank. The reel however spins beautifully and effortlessly. The rod seems to be getting some negative reviews on here but its actually what sold me on this combo... and the sale thing... The rod claims to be an IM8 which impressed me. I hear that you do have to be more careful with those as opposed to the IM6 or IM7 rods. (which could be the cause of all the rod snaps I keep reading about) I'm going to use this specialist combo this weekend and I'll update this post with a more comprehensive review. I am not however holding my breath that this will be the best rod ever...

I bought one of these rod/reel combos for pike fishing and loved it so much I bought a second one for light line for rainbow trout...used them both so much with no problems that i got my brother, dad and boyfriend one also...bf kept borrowing mine...lol..nothin worse than sharing your fishin gear!

Q: how do you switch retrieve side, again??? When i unscrew the cap and pull the handle out, one side is metal and the other is plastic, the provision for the handle in the body. (left is metal with some teeth, the right is white plastic) The handle cannot slip in on the other side...

A: No Problem & easy fix!. That white piece typically comes out when you unscrew the cap, but not always. You need to take some needle nose pliers and simply pull the white piece out, place it back on the threaded screw cap and switch the handle to the other side.

A: The combo does not come with line, thereby allowing you to to make a preference. I have bought over 12 of these combos over the years and recommend a Berkley 8 or 10lb (low viz) mono.
