    Great lights but poor bulbs

    works for me

Bought these to work on the interior of my van over the winter months in the garage. Like the way I can aim each one a different direction. Each gives off 250 watts which is plenty for me. Nice and light and the legs spread apart with adequate stability. Gives off a bit of heat and helps warm the vehicle's interior. Don't knock it over or burn yourself and it will be fine, not like myself when trying to turn it off! Ouch! It's not contractor quality but you can't beat the price.

    Yes, I recommend this product.

    better than expected

I only needed lights for a couple nights of work so didn't want to spend too much. I wasn't expecting these to be very sturdy or durable but as long as the bulbs worked for more than a couple days, I'd be happy. The stand is more sturdy than I thought but that's not saying too much. I was working in a tight space and knocked it over, face down, within the first half hour. I figured that was the end of them working but the cage on the front of the lights bent a bit when it fell which absorbed some of the impact and protected the bulbs. Overall, these are good for the price but keep in mind that the advertised 500w actually means two 250w lamps. A bit misleading.

    Yes, I recommend this product.

    • A: Yes, but they get very hot in a short time so just make sure that there isn't anything flammable nearby and do not leave unattended for more than a couple minutes.

Q: Can you seperate the lights from the tri-pod? The titles says/asks it all

    • A: Technically yes, with a knurled knob underneath each of the lamp heads, but they remain connected to each other via their power cords (you'd also have to disconnect the little junction box from the tripod, that's a small Philips screw). And the lamps have no base or feet of their own so they aren't really useful once disconnected.

Q: Do these bulbs heat up?

    • A: 500 W by definition is hot, and Halogens get really hot. I have seen a fly just fly past the light and get cooked. If they fall onto the light they start to smoke and burn.

    1 Answer
