Do not buy under any circumstance

Terrible unit. Very loud. Fan makes a rubbing sound that you cant sleep through. Barley blows cold. Had it less than two weeks and canadian tire wont accept it as a return. Couldn't even get store credit so now I'm stuck with the worst ac unit possible. Wont be shopping at any more CT stores after this.

If you're on a budget and your room isn't too big

Okay, so I think I've got this model figured out. I bought it when it was humidex 40 and I didn't have the extra 100$ to drop on a more powerful model. I did't turn it on for about 6hrs before I couldn't take it anymore, the store guy said it hadn't been tipped or anything.
(In case you didn't know, the refrigeration unit in pretty much all air conditioners has a coolant liquid in it which turns to gas when it's operating, and it can splash around inside the refrigeration unit if tipped or moved and it can cause your AC to break or malfunction if it vaporizes where it's not supposed to be in it's liquid state. This is why you should leave it upright and wait about a day before turning it on, this was VERY unclear to me when I was shopping and I suspect this is why it's gotten many negative reviews)
Anyway, After turning it on after three days of 40 humidex, it managed to get the temperature down from 32 to 29 after about a day or so, and it removed the humidity almost immediately which just by itself made life more bearable. However, it didn't manage to cool it off more than 28 while humidex remained at around 40. My room is about 12 square meters, which is 3 above recommended. It is worth mentioning that if you turn this on when it's insanely hot, it will take considerable time for an AC like this with lower efficiency to cool everything off, because the room with all your furniture and such will have accumulated a lot of heat at these temperatures if you have no pre-existing AC or anything like that. At lower temperatures (around 30-35), this thing does a good job if it's been allowed to pre-cool the room it's in, it's mid 30's right now and it's keeping my room steady between 23 and 25, when set to 25.
As for noise level, this thing is a little bit loud, but not that bad in my opinion. I'm a light sleeper so I sleep with earplugs and when they're in I can barely hear it at all. I had a dual window fan from Walmart before buying this and that one was more noisy than this AC.
So in short, if you're strapped for cash, have a fairly small room and if you just need to survive the heat waves, this is what you want. Once it drops the temperature to a few degrees below it's setting, it will turn itself off and come back on when it starts to heat up again. And don't forget to let it sit before turning it on, else you might be very disappointed.

R : It needs to be hooked to a window because that's how you vent the hot air from the motor. If you don't vent it, the machine will constantly be trying to cool the hot air coming from its own motor. Also the plastic hose on the back that comes with the unit is short. To vent this out of the bedroom window. I have the unit on a 2 1/2 foot tall stand and right under the window.

R : Absolutely. An air conditioner is a heat pump. This means that it works by moving heat from one place to another. It has two coils. The reason for the hose to the window is that it blows cold air into the house, and hot air out of it. The hose will get very hot! It's moving the hot air out.

R : It has 2 caps that unscrew in the back of the unit. When removed, you will see rubber plugs. Pull out the plugs and drain the unit. I have not noticed any warning light for this, but I usually empty mine once a week (using air conditioning mode only) and I get about half a cup of water if even.

R : I have swing-out (vertically) windows. I have a different model, but not having seen this one, I assume it's similar. Just takes a bit of jerryrigging. I fit the strip that takes the hoses into the opening and close the window on that. I have pieces of signboard cut to size that will block the triangular shaped gaps that will be left at the top and the bottom of the window. I'm not a handyman, so it's pretty much Red Green. :) However, if you have any talent, you could put a heavier material like wood and screw them into place year to year. In my case I use several layers and LOTS of wide painters tape to secure and block the air spaces. My main concern is my cat busting through it, but I got away with it last year by making the opening of the window quite small and inserting a screw on the outside of the window to prevent it being pushed open. It's an older house, so fortunately everything is wood. It ends up not being the highest efficiency but it keeps the place cool and that's all I care about when it gets warm! If I can figure out how to do it, maybe I'll video the process when I put it up this year.
