Someone USED IT and stuck it back in the box. Didn't notice till I got home. Pictures attached. Cheaply made, "Welller" is just painted on instead of embossed like the other solding irons.
No, I do not recommend this product.

Broke battery tab off the circuit board in car remote when changing the batteries. Read reviews and then bought this. Worked extremely well. Took longer to get the dang thing out of the package then it did to do the repair. Would easily buy it again

Q: What exactly is that black, pencil-like object, pointed at one end, and forked at the other? Bought this couple days ago, I was wondering what it is used for. Looks like a black pencil, pointed at one end, and forked at the other.

A: I've used the fork to bend resistor/capacitor/jumper leads to fit PCB holes; both ends are handy for removing parts too. As others have said, the tool's good for positioning and holding hot items more precisely than heat calloused soldering fingers.

Q: what is the thread size for the replaceable tips?

A: Answering my own question... The tips are NOT the threaded replacement type; they are held in with a set screw. Included tips are solid metal with a diameter of 4mm, and therefore will not work for my intended purpose of threaded heatset inserts.

Q: I see that 3 tips are included. How fine are they? I am looking to replace a very small SMD resistor and wondering if this will do the job - ie if the smallest tip is small enough for this detail work.

A: I have soldered some fine wire connections using this pen and the pointed tip. I would suggest that you go to the store if possible and look at the tips with the kit to see if you think it is small enough for your purpose.
