Owned for about 3 years now and it is a decent unit, things that I do not like after all this time is the reverse speeds are incredibly slow, like the slowest I have ever seen so you end up having to strongarm it instead which will probably not be good for older people. Also I think melt water from the previous use makes it inside of the belt housing and causes the auger to slip, only seems to be an issue in the beginning 5mins of operation. It has lots of power no complaints there, could use an impeller kit. Overall it's a good machine on a budget but if you got the extra coin go for something better and metal like Ariens.

The Troy-Bilt storm is a powerful easy to control snow blower, the hand warming grips make snow blowing more comfortable and fun, it powders through the deepest snow no problem, great buy.

    First impressions of 28" Troybilt

I purchased this from a local Canadian Tire store about 2 weeks ago. Overall, I like it. I think it throws snow adequately but not as far as my previous blower. I suppose the distance it throws snow is somewhat determined by the type of snow - I would say it blew the snow about 20 - 25 feet today - not all that far but I think it is adequate. I haven't tried the heated grips yet because the temperature was just a few degrees below freezing but I am sure I will like this feature. The metal cap holding the knob on the crank which controls the direction of the snow chute immediately fell off upon first use. I tapped it back on (it is a friction fit) with a hammer and as soon as I started the engine it fell off again. I finally "locked" it on with some JB Weld epoxy. It has a throttle and I really like that feature. My previous snowblower ran permanently at full throttle. The engine runs nicely and is supposed to start with 3-5 pushes of the prime button but it needs a little more than 5 "primes" in order for it to start up. The wires to the heated grip on the right handlebar are exposed and I will have to do something, perhaps tape them to the handlebar, in order to protect them. Overall I am pleased. Although this is a 28" snowblower, it is physically smaller and lighter than my previous 27" snowblower. I have added chains to the tires but likely this was not necessary. The controls for turning it work very well. I can use all of the forward and backward speeds - I purposely tried them all because I noticed some complained about their inability to shift into the various speeds. So far, I like it.

    Yes, I recommend this product.

Q: Very difficult to put into reverse #2. Is it possible it came with the wrong length of cable? In reverse #2 cable is VERY taught - will eventually either snap or stretch. Any suggestions?

Q: re.TROYBUILT 272cc ,28in. sno blower with electric/manual start.HOW DOES ONE START IT BY ELECTRIC MODE.? By110volt conectiion with a standard extension cord or ??

    4 Answers

A: Thank you for your question. Simply plug an outdoor extension cord rated for 15 amps and 125 volts into the electric start switch on the snow thrower - and a ground fault protected outlet at the house, then press the start button. Once the engine is started remove the extension cord. Please refer to the engine owners manual for steps to prime, choke, start and run the engine. Use fresh ethanol-free gasoline for reliable starts. It is recommended to add a quality fuel stabilizer such as STA-BIL® or StarTron® to your gas container before purchasing fuel to ensure trouble free starting of any outdoor power equipment especially after seasonal storage.

Q: Bought 3 weeks ago, have not used, moved it the other day and there was a small oil stain on garage floor. Moved it waited a day and another stain. Is this normal? Should I return?

    3 Answers

A: No that is definitely not normal. I for sure would return it. Is it oil? Check the bottom of the machine for signs of oil leaks . Sometimes the factory will spray a rust inhibitor for delivery . Just a thought.! My unit has had no problems.

Q: What to do now that all grades of gas contain ethanol?

    2 Answers

A: Thank you for your question. For reliable starts and best performance in all snowblowers, add a quality fuel stablilizer like Star-Tron or Sta-Bil (Canadian Tire items 060-6412-0 or 038-0908-4) to your gas container each time before filling it. Purchase smaller quantities of fuel that you might consume within 90 days.

Q: can the snow blower be used on a gravel driveway ?

    2 Answers

A: Yes, the black plastic pieces at bottom of snow collector area are like skis. They are adjustable. Just set them higher and periodically check them as they may wear down or come out of adjustment depending on how the machine is handled. Example dropping it on drum area several times.

A: I have not searched for a video on this, however it is easy to start. Plug in the cord for power start ,adjust your throttle lever to start and push the start button. to turn off , move start button to lowest position and it turns off. Canadian tire should have chains for this
