Poor quality rubber.

These don’t appear to be pure rubber. It seems like rubber mixed with paper. You are better off cutting up an old inner tube and rubbing vulcanizing cement on them to turn into patches than trying to use these “rubber patches”.

No, I do not recommend this product.

Q: Why does this product not include instructions?

2 Answers
  • A: Basic instructions are to locate the source of leaking air by filling the tube with air and by partially submerging it in water section by section to identify the source of the leak. Dry the tube thoroughly. Rough the surface of the tube gently with the abrasive provided. This creates a good bond surface for the adhesive. Select an appropriate sized patch. Apply a section of glue the same size as the patch directly onto the tube. Remove the adhesive backing from the patch and apply to the same area on the tube pressing down firmly to bond it to the tube. Allow to dry for several hours before use.

Q: Does the self adhesive require cement to be bought seperatley? If so why does the package say it includes everything needed for repair.

1 Answer
  • A: You do NOT need to purchase rubber cement separately, the patch comes with it’s own adhesive already on it. The previous “Rubber Patch Repair Kit” (73-3005) did come with rubber cement, but the current does not require it.

Q: The item in the store associated with this product code is not what appears on this web page. The item in the store is a self-adhesive sticker and does not come with a tube of contact cement

1 Answer
  • A: This is correct, there are two styles available. One is glueless, and one requires cement. Both styles work equally well.

Q: Which side of the patch goes toward the tube? The foild part seems to stick to the patch.

1 Answer
  • A: You would peel the patch from the foil and apply foil side down.
