Q: Does this allow pine or hardwood pellets to sift through it? (Are the openings big enough?) or is it too small to let pine pellets through. Thanks!

A: Correct, the openings are not large enough for pellets to sift through. Otherwise it is a very good scoop.

Very sturdy with no flex handle

Based on many other reviews, I checked the rigidity of the handle to see how much it would bend. The handle on the one I purchased, along with the half dozen others in stock was very stiff. Virtually no flex at all, giving you a very sturdy scoop. Given that I have cats with a bladder the size of a grapefruit, I knocked off 1 star as it would be nice if the scoop was maybe 1/2" or so wider. Also, the slat gaps could be a little narrower. Overall, a very effective and strong scoop
