Q: I have a 2001 Nissan Sentra and 2010 Hyundai Santa Fe. As these are not GM vehicles, can I use the Pennzoil Platinum Synthetic, which is Dexos compliant? Or should I be using the Pennzoil Ultra Platinum Synthetic as it's not Dexos compliant?
4 years agoA: 1st off, both Pennzoil Platinum and Pennzoil Ultra are Dexos certified and meet Dexos1 Gen2 specs. 2nd, neither of your vehicles require Dexos1 certification, and Dexos1 certs do not negate the GF-6 certification that both oils carry and largely excede the GF-4 specs your vehicles require. You are fine with either oil as long as you use the proper viscosity in each one.

A: Not necessarily. I haven't noticed any difference. Synthetic is easier on your engine, especially in colder climates. Less friction equals less wear.

A: From your manual: 5W-20 oil is formulated for year-round protection of your Honda, to improve cold weather starting and to help your engine use less fuel. If 5W-30 oil is not available, a 5W-30 oil may be used. However, it should be replaced with 5W-20 at the next oil change. Synthetic oil: You may use a synthetic motor oil if it meets the same requirements given for a conventional motor oil: it displays the API Certification Seal, and it is the proper weight as shown on the chart. When using synthetic oil, you must follow the oil and filter change intervals given in the maintenance schedule.

A: Hello, GM calls for Dexos approved oil to meet manufacturer warranty. This is a customer decision and not something we would recommend.
