NOMA clips for Christmas lights

Not obvious how to use them. They don't clip on the bulb but rather hold the wire. Makes it harder to attach to your gutter when you are on a ladder. Would have been nice to include instructions.

Although "Universal" the clips did not work with the C9 lights that I purchased. I returned them and purchased the Noma Quick Clips specifically for C9 lights.

Q: Would these clips work if your evestroughs are covered with a leaf guard cover?

A: Probably not unless you bend the leaf gu as rd which my damage both the clip and the leaf guard.

Q: Do you need to have a clip for ever light or can you have a clip every 2 or 3 lights? My run is 250' which will be over 350 lights so that would need alot of clips if it is one clip every light bulb. Thanks
