Energy Savings Made Irrelevant By Dismal Lifespan

I'll add to what the other reviewers have mentioned with my own story about these bulbs. I bought them in mid-January 2011, interested in their low wattage and thus potential long-term savings. Also, their CF counterparts not enclosed in a bulb that I had installed in nearly every light fixture in our home had lasted several years to that point - all but one since - so I expected the same with these, especially given the price tag. As others have noted, I was surprised at how long they took to get to maximum brightness. And this week, I was even more surprised to have them both burn out within the same week, only 17 months later. An average of 4 hours a day only works out to little more than 2,000 hours. So the energy savings did not happen, and I'm most certainly phoning the number on the product package for an explanation as to why they did not last the "five (5) years or 8,000 hours" as stated on the packaging. Fortunately, I kept both the receipt and the packaging in case I'm told to go to the nearest Canadian Tire store instead, in which case I'll likely demand a full refund.

No, I do not recommend this product.

Don't Buy!

As with the other tow reviews so far. They fail quickly and light slowly taking up to two minutes to put out adequate light. Different colours at different ages of bulbs leaving you with ubly specialty fixtures. Count on replacing some of the bulbs within the first year making them an expensive, environmentally unfriendly option!

Every single one of these bulbs I purchased has stopped working within 6 months. Very frustrating.

It's a dark bulb, not a light bulb

For this part number (52-5370-4), my packaging says it's 11W and 8,000 hour life. About a year ago, i bought six of these for a single fixture. Within six months, the first one died. By nine months, all six had been replaced. Fortunately, they have a 5 year guarantee, but I've now made 5 trips for replacement bulbs (once, I got lucky and two failed close enough together they were combined into one trip). Unfortunately, they are now all slightly different shades and all take differing times to warm up to full brightness. I have another trip to make, because one of the replacements has failed. Perks: they're low heat, very bright when all 6 are working, and start off dim so you're not blinded when you turn the light on in the middle of the night.
