Q: Are those 'open handles" on the front and sides? If so, it wouldn't be practical for my use because the squirrels and chipmunks would squeeze in. It is hard to tell by the picture if it is closed on the inside. Otherwise, it is perfect.

A: No they are not open. They are indentations in the sides for lifting.

A: You can lock it, it would not be raccoon proof without the lock. Kids could user it as a seat, I would not sit on it as an adult it's sides are not sturdy enough.

Attractive looking and excellent quality outdoor storage deck box - very easy to put together, no tools required. Durable, waterproof and large enough to fit all my deck chair and umbrella covers as well as pillows and other miscellaneous outdoor times. I'm especially impressed with the waterproof quality of this deck box making it totally water tight. I would buy again
