    Better solution than grip tape

I was looking for a solution for our wooden hot tub stairs that would keep the steps clear of ice or easier to clear and add some grip when wet. These so far have fit perfectly and add the extra grip I needed. Will need to see how they are with ice but so far so good. I did put a screw through each corner to keep them from moving but they do have a grippy surface on the back that would probably work in most cases.

    Stair tread stays put

Got three of the treads for steps that lead up to a sundeck. The 3 foot by 10 inch size was pretty much perfect. So far they are staying put because of their good weight, and traction seemed okay after the one snowfall we had. Also being black, they seemed to melt the snow off much quicker than the wooden steps would have. Happy with purchase.

I did not use these for stair treads but instead for an outdoor application, and I feel like they are good for what they are.

Q: Does the pebbled smooth side or the grooved side face up on outside steps?

A: I use them pebbled side up but only because the picture on the website has them pebbled side up. No expert knowledge here.

Q: Will these treads mark exposed aggregate stairs?

A: I doubt it. They’re a heavy dense rubber.  We use them on composite decking which gets very slippery.

Q: How do these hold up to icy/wet conditions? I'm worried that the rubber will be just as slippery as my wooden outdoor stairs. I'm on the West Coast so we get fog, rain and freezing temperatures overnight that lead to icy stairs!

A: You do need to keep them clear of snow but I found the one benefit is they absorb heat from the sun once the black is uncovered which then melts residual ice. They are very durable and easy to store in the summer. For wood treads they would cover drainage gaps which may not be desirable

Q: I have just purchase this at Canadian Tires for my three outdoors stairs. But I am not sure how to attach them to the stair!! There is no instruction on how to it. Would you use at type of glue or would you. screw/nail it to the stairs? Thank you.

    2 Answers

A: No need to attach them - they are quite thick and heavy and as long as they fit on your step (as close to your step size as possible, with no overhang) they won't move
