Clock is not stable standing upright, because base is not flat.

A raised seam runs along the sides and top and bottom of the clock. When the clock is upright, as shown in the photo, this ridge causes it to wobble a lot at the slightest touch or bump, which makes the clock fall over. Placing the clock on its back (to keep it stable) makes it impractical for checking the time. The second hand moves silently, in a continuous motion, rather than with one noisy tick per second. Quiet operation is a good feature in a bedside clock. If all you need is a travel alarm, and you won't be using this clock to check the time, it might be adequate, but there are other alarm clocks out there that don't have this falling-over design flaw.
