Q: How long does it take to work. I used it and got some gross clumpy foam form and my water is not clear at all 1hr later.

A: That gunky stuff is all the particles and body oils forming into bits so the filter can clear them. Never have the air on, just the pump running? Or you get those. You may want to get a scum bug (little foam bug that floats) for all that stuff to stick to. Clarifier works fast but it takes a while or the filter to clear it all out. A few hours probably. Rinse your filter afterwards too or it clogs with all those bits.
