Bought as a gift to a new driver

I have one of these compact shovels for years long permanently sitting in the trunk of my every vehicle, and I give them as a gift to my friends and family for their first winter behind the steering wheel of their new vehicle. Saves a lot of trouble, and you should have one in a trunk if even your vehicle is AWD (my all vehicles are). The people who rate this product 1 star for its short handle should read a product description before they buy: it's an offroad emergency tool for a car, not a yard cleaning shovel. I verified both latching buttons to not get stuck in the handle at the time of buying, only because some reviewers reported their such issue. The item is being bought as a gift this time, and I don't want a gifted to get a lemon. Both buttons worked perfectly, by the way. Weight of the product doesn't matter because it travels in a trunk; dimensions do matter, because no one trunk is roomy enough. I like the construction, the weight and the dimensions. Highly recommended.

Broke before we used it. The metal button to hold it in place when in storage mode is now inside the handle and we have yet to figure out a way to retreive it. The shovel will still work at this point but if that button was that weak than I can only assume the one that hold the handle in place during use is the same and it will only be a matter of time before it does tha same thing.

Just bought this and am returning it. Barely extends. And the little tabs you push to extend it are so flimsy, mine got stuck inside the first time I extended it. Can't see this being overly useful.
