Not worth the $ money spent

I don't know what it was supposed to do. I didn't notice any differences. Very expensive for no apparent function.

Effective

The product removed both built-up ice and seems to have help prevent future build up. I poured some of the product onto a cloth and rubbed it on the underside of my garage door (after raising the door about halfway to make it easy to reach). It removed existing ice, and seemed to help prevent build up for several days afterward.

I had a frozen shower drain. Used this product and it worked. Overpriced in my opinion.

Q: After applying the liquid ice melter, how long does it last before it has to be reapplied?

3 Answers
  • A: I've allays applied it when the dry weather has turned to freezing and/or when snow is in the forecast and always "Prior" to a snowfall or freezing rain... Applying the  Alaskan Ice "Preventer" Prior will "Prevent" the snow from sticking and then it forming any Ice for about 2 days. But... if/when I see the snow starting to stick, I will shovel or sweep the snow off and re-apply to prevent the snow from forming any Ice. I guess the trick is, is to Always apply it "Prior" to any snowfalls and/or "Prior" to when the weather turns to Freezing, but... Don't wait for it to snow and then apply it onto already fallen snow and expect it to melt the snow or melt already formed ice instantly.  Yes it can, and it will melt the already fallen snow and/or formed ice eventually, but it really is best to Clear the Snow First, then Evenly distribute the Alaskan Ice "Preventer", with its unique pouring spout, so that the ice doesn't get that chance to form! It's a "Preventer" and a little common sense will go a lonnng way...

Q: Is it safe for dogs?

2 Answers
  • A: We use the liquid near our doors for our dogs so they don’t track in salt chunks and because the Alaskan ice melter claims to be pet friendly. This is from their web site: “Alaskan Pet friendly Ice Melter is a salt-free ice melter designed to be gentle on paws and safe for pets. Contains zeolite for improved traction and provides immediate safety on icy surfaces. Effective to -11 °C (12°F).”

A: Hello Denise, we did not test this product on rubber. We would recommend using the product on the ground below the garage door. If you need more information please contact us at info@alaskan.ca. Thank you.

Q: Can you use this product on a wood deck?

1 Answer
  • Alaskan Consumer Service

A: Hello Jawz, Alaskan Ice Preventer only can be used on wooden deck, according to the instructions for use. We recommend to test a section of wood and see what the results are. It is a liquid material with calcium chloride and sodium chloride, so it could leave salt stains, Thank you
