It’s a good idea to change the locks on your doors when you move into a new home, or if you simply want a new look. You can easily replace door locks yourself with tools you may already have.
WHAT YOU'LL NEED
- Hammer
- White rubber mallet
- Small block of wood
Step
Determine what kind of lock you need.
Take measurements of your door's backset by measuring from the latch of your door to the centre of the door knob.

The screws may have tightened over time. Remember: Righty tighty, lefty loosey.
Step
Take the new door lock and hardware out of it's packaging.
Keep the manual handy.

Install the latch
Many door lock and hardware kits come with different latches. Make sure to pick the one that fits your door.
