What are the different types of drill bits?

The different types of drill bits and driver bits we carry include:

• Twist drill bits: These standard bits can be used to pierce and drill anything ranging from wood and plastic to concrete and metal available in a wide range of sizes and drill sets.

• Masonry drill bits: These heavy-duty drill bits are best used for masonry and construction projects and can be found in sized between 5/32-in to 1/2-in or more.

• Hammer drill bits: Your masonry projects will benefit from these bits that are best used with hammer drills.

• Auger bits: Essential for woodworking, these bits are designed with a screw tip for efficient drilling.

• Countersink screw bits: These bits can be found in tapered and twisted variants and are ideal for woodworking projects.

• Titanium bits: These bits are coated in titanium nitride and can drill through ferrous and non-ferrous metals.

• Step drill bits: These arrow-shaped bits are designed with multiple steps in their flute, allowing them to drill different sized holes with one bit for metalworking projects.

Where can I find a missing drill or driver bit to complete my set?

If you are missing drill bits or driver bits, contact the drill set manufacturer for information regarding replacement parts. You can also find replacement drill bits compatible with your power drill and drill set at Canadian Tire.

How to sharpen drill bits?

You can use drill bit sharpeners to have your drill bits and driver bits working as good as new. Most drill bit sharpeners can sharpen bits with a diameter range between 3/32-in to ½-in to ensure your accessories are prepared and ready to go for your next project. One method to sharpen drill bits is to select the bit you’d like, insert the drill bit in the drill holder/alignment component of the sharpener, and turn on your device. Follow manufacturer’s instructions included with your drill bit sharpener purchase to properly sharpen and maintain your drill and driver bits.

How to put drill bits in drill

To put drill bits in a power drill, insert the shank of the bit into the drill’s chuck and keep it centered. Turn the chuck clockwise until the drill bit is secured by its jaws.

How to remove drill bits?

To remove drill bits, turn the front of the power drill’s chuck counterclockwise to loosen its jaws around the installed drill bit.
