Not driving much? Remember to charge your battery! With many Canadians driving fewer kilometres, instances of dead batteries are on the rise. Here’s how to prevent the dreaded click click click of a flat battery.
Why is my battery dead?
While many components on your vehicle like tires, brakes and filters may be enjoying a bit of a break, driving less hurts our car batteries.
Even when sitting idle, electronics in your vehicle are constantly drawing power from the battery, and short trips don't give your car enough time to fully recharge its battery. Add long periods of vehicle inactivity to the mix, and sulfation occurs, leading to a dead battery.
Dead battery? Here’s what you can do
• Your battery is relatively new and otherwise healthy: A jumpstart and thorough charging should bring it back to life. • Your battery is a few years old: Such a stressful event could result in irreversible damage necessitating a replacement battery.
