I used a screwdriver to get more leverage and managed to break it off with my bare hands. Funny, I didn't think I was that strong.

We used them as anchor points for our gazebo and ran ratchet straps from the gazebo to the stake. They went in to the ground well and have taken a fair bit of tension without giving.
