A central vacuum system is a great solution to the inconvenience of traditional vacuum cleaning. With minimal noise and versatile functions, central vacuums can help make cleaning carpets, couches, stairs, and appliances easier.
Why choose Canadian Tire Home Services®
Our Authorized Installers have the experience and know-how to ensure every step of your installation is done right. They’ll help you select a suitable unit for your home, remove your old unit if you have one, or install a complete central vacuum system, including piping, if you are purchasing your first unit.
Once you have chosen your central vacuum, you will need to consider the installation. Below are the most common things to consider when installing your central vacuum system.
Is this a new system or a replacement unit for an existing system?
If you are replacing an existing system, the installation is much simpler, and you will not require an installation kit (unless you choose to add an additional outlet).
Where will the unit be located?
Most homes will have the unit installed in the garage to limit the amount of noise in the home, as well as to reduce the potential for airborne dust around the unit during operation. If this is not an option, the unit can be located in the basement with an exhaust vent to the exterior of the home.
Is your home “roughed in”?
This means that there are currently pipes running to the floor/wall sites where the hose will be plugged into around the home. “Roughed in” is not a complete installation, and special switched inlets and piping will generally need to be added to complete the system.
How many inlets will you need?
Three inlets are often enough to service the average home. However if the house is larger, or an additional inlet is required in the basement or garage, then an additional fourth inlet is needed.
Does your basement have a finished ceiling?
If you have an open ceiling or suspended ceiling tiles that are easily removed to permit installation access, our Authorized Installers can complete the job for the standard pricing. If the ceiling is finished (drywall, plaster, fixed tiles, etc.), a new central vacuum system installation will be more complex and require an on-site quote prior to providing you a price for the work.
Have you purchased all the necessary accessories for the vacuum?
Installation kits are sold separately and are required for the installation. You will need to purchase the kit and have it available for the Authorized Installer. Typically, the 3-inlet kit will suffice, but if you chose to install extra inlets, you will need to purchase as many additional ‘single’ kits as required. If you choose to have a ‘dustpan’ installed, you will have to purchase that as well as the Authorized Installer will not supply this item.
Purchasing your package
The first step, if you haven’t already done so, is to purchase your central vacuum system, with any accessories, assembly/installation service and delivery (if required) at a Canadian Tire store. WHAT DOES THE BASIC INSTALLATION INCLUDE?
Basic installation replacement of existing canister.
The Authorized Installer will:
• Un-package and inspect the unit to ensure there are no missing or damaged pieces
• Ensure that the electrical source near the canister has the proper amperage and there is enough free space around the unit for proper motor air cooling circulation
• Install the mounting brackets, if required, to support the proper weight of the canister
• Hang the power unit canister and connect power source
• Connect the last section of tubing to the canister, and attach muffler if required
• Test to ensure proper operation of unit, checking all connections at each existing inlet
• Do a final clean up of job site
• Review installation and proper operation with the Customer
• Break down all boxes and garbage, and leave it for the Customer to arrange for disposal
Note: Inlet installations are not included in this package; however, they can be purchased at an additional cost.
What could lead to additional costs?
If you require a new installation one of our Authorized Installers will come to your home and give you a customized quote based on your home’s individualized needs.
What costs are included in the customized quote?
If the home has not been “roughed in” or is only partially “roughed in”, there will need to be additional piping added to the home to complete the central vacuum installation.
The amount of piping and cost of this work will depend of the extent of the work necessary to make the system operational.
Does the system piping run directly to the vacuum unit location?
Some “roughed in” homes only have the pipes installed as far as the basement, and the pipe connecting to the unit is still required. The installation kit includes this piping but there is additional work needed to complete the installation. This additional cost would be outlined in your customized quote. If additional inlets are required, or if there are accessories requiring installation (such as a dust pan), there will be additional charges.
If there are additional charges for work outside of the original quote and installation agreement to make the installation safe and operational, you will be advised of those charges by the Authorized Installer prior to beginning the work.
