Sizing Guidelines

How to Measure

  1. Height - Stand straight and tall, in stocking feet, against the wall. Place a stiff paper on top of head, parallel to the floor and mark wall. Measure from mark to floor.
  2. Chest/Bust - Stand normally, arms at sides. Measure over the fullest part of chest/bust. Keep tape snug, not tight. For men, this may be under the arms at the widest area.
  3. Inseam - Stand in stocking feet with legs slightly apart. Measure from the crotch, along the leg and down to the floor.
  4. Head - Measure the circumference of the head with a tape measure, one inch (2.54cm) above the eyebrows.

Foot Sizing

Measure your foot following the guidelines provided:

  • Measure your foot near the end of the day. This will compensate for the normal swelling that your feet experience each and every day.
  • Put on the type of sock that you will normally be wearing for the footwear that you are about to select. As an example, if you wear a heavier sock with ice skates then wear these when measuring your foot.
  • Measure both feet and select the size that is the larger. As you may be aware many people have one foot that is slightly larger than the other.
  • While seated place your foot flat on a piece of paper.
  • Using a pen or pencil, and holding it as straight upright as possible place marks on the paper at the tip of your big toe and at your heel.
  • Using a ruler measure the distance between these two points in either inches or centimeters.
  • Refer to the following North American and European footwear-sizing chart. Remember to repeat this exercise for your other foot and use the larger measurement when selecting your footwear.

Driving Gloves

Driving Gloves are designed to fit snugly so as to provide a good grip on the steering wheel. Keep in mind that kidskin leather is very supple and will stretch a small amount.

To determine your glove size, measure around the top part of your hand (over the knuckles, excluding the thumb) and use the chart below:

Bike Helmets

  • A bike helmet should sit level across the forehead, just above the eyebrows.
  • A helmet should not have significant movement or wiggle before you begin adjusting the straps.
  • Straps need to be snug against the face and chin, but not too tight.
  • The helmet should not move more than about an inch in any direction when you move your head up and down or side to side.
  • Helmets should not pull off no matter how hard you try.
  • Remember that helmets should be replaced every three years.

Figure Skates are of narrow build, so you should take one full size larger than your shoe size For example, if your shoe size is 7, your figure skates should be Size 8.

Elbow Pads

Elbow pads and glove size go hand in hand and must be fitted together. To determine elbow and glove size, measure from the tip of the middle finger to the mid-point of the elbow and add 1" to allow for the padding. The elbow pad/glove you choose should match this measurement. For example, if the physical meaure is 14", the total length of the selected glove/elbow pad combo should be 15".

While seated, and wearing skates, measure the leg from the middle of the kneecap to the top eyelet of the skate. Subtract 1 /2 to 1" from the measurement and match this to the length of the shin pad.

Hockey Skates

Select one full size less than the regular shoe size. For instance, if you normally take a size 8 shoe, order a size 7 skate.

Women wishing to purchase men's hockey skates must first convert their size to a men's size by subtracting one and a half sizes from the normal shoe size. For example, a women's size 9 equals a men's size 7.5. Then subtract one size to determine skate size. In this example, the proper skate size would be a men’s size 6.5. It may be necessary to purchase a Junior size skate in some cases. Some sample conversions are shown below.

Wood sticks

Wood sticks are flex-rated "mid", "stiff" and "extra stiff" and should be chosen according to the player's weight. Small, lightweight players should use a "mid" flex stick. Players of average weight should select "stiff" and players who are heavier or larger than average should select "extra-stiff.

Aluminum and Composite Sticks

Most aluminum and composite sticks are flex-rated. Select the stick based on the player's weight for his/her size. If lighter than average choose "mid flex", if average, "stiff" and, if heavier, "extra stiff".

Sweaters

Jerseys must fit loosely in order to cover all protective equipment and also to let the upper body breathe. Select based on the shirt/pullover size normally worn. For example, if you usually wear a men's large, choose that size for your hockey sweater.

Throat Protectors

These are adjustable and fit based on collar size. For instance, if you wear a size 15 shirt collar, choose a throat protector that fits 14" to 18" (35-45cm).

Street Hockey

Goal pads are measured from the bottom of the pad to the top. The size you choose is a matter of personal preference. As a general guideline, measure from the middle of the thigh to the floor, while standing. The range of usable goal pads is from the middle of the thigh to halfway between mid-thigh and kneecap.

X-Country Skiing

Skis- Stand barefoot on the floor and raise your arm above your head. The tip of the ski should reach the middle of your palm. Select this length of ski.

Ski Boots- Please refer to the footwear chart at the beginning of this section and note that all cross-country ski boots are only available in European sizes.

Ski Poles- Measure the distance from the floor to your armpit. That's how long your ski poles should be.
