Works well Garrison 52-2544-0

"Unit is equivalent (if not identical) to old Noma 7-day programmable units - appearance slightly different; features and manual almost identical.

In rooms with old bi-metallic thermostats, just installed two of these units after having had 6 of the "old" (no longer available) Noma brand for 8+years. All those still going fine.

The hard copy Instruction Manual has foolishly small print, so downloaded the PDF and it is easy to read and also can search features within the Adobe Reader.

Programming can be a challenge, as for the earlier Noma's, but once done, reliable. In programming, you must do each and every step in the sequence stated - don't try to guess your way through it, that way is frustration.

Copy function works fine - IF you follow instructions.

Some features are BETTER than Aube/Honeywell: eg, each day can have different temperatures, whereas Aube allows one set of 4 temperatures, which you use for the 4 periods each day, ie, you cannot have a different morning temp, say 21.5 on Sat, but 19.5 other days!

Triac controls silent and work well.

Advanced heating is great: you set the time and the temp: it works ahead to reach that at the stated time; most other brands START to heat at the stated time, so there can be a time lag to reaching your required temp.

Only concern: can be fiddly and awkward to remove the covers to access the reset button for initial setup or re-setting.

For those who have had problems and reported them here: my experiences are fine."

Defective unit

"Purchased this item yesterday. Its pretty basic to install. After instalation I took a minute to look at the setup instructions, if you do this you should not have any problems.

The temperature in the room was MUCH more comfortable and noticable after an hours usage.

After a few hours pass I started noticing the time on the unit was losing time with reality. It loses about 30 minutes every 2 hours. Waking up at 9 this morning the unit was at 3:36 am. Obviousely this defeats the purpose of having a timer...

Further more the up button has to be pressed extremely hard for it to operate. The down button not quite as hard. The butons look and feel very cheap.

- no backlight
- no battery backup
- cheap buttons
- defective timer

I will be returning this item asap!"

"What is the point in having an LCD display with no backlight? I have just purchased 2 of these and they both are almost impossible to read.

"This is a more reliable produce than NOMAs non-programmable thermostat that has the display that doesn't consistently work. I has this and replaced it within a year. It was a pain to program!

Go for the Honeywell 5-2 Day Programmable Line Volt Thermostat Product #52-8890-8 It is awesome!"

"We purchased one of these for almost every room in our home, a total of 8. We have electric heat throughout and we could not believe the difference in the temperature being regulated, no more hot cold, one temperature throughout and savings on our electrical billing. I agree ,they are a bit complicated at first to get use too the programming but it is like anything once you learn it you don't forget. We have already recommended to many others that have now installed them and they too say home is warmer and electrical bill seems to be lower with better more even heating."

Unreliable

"I recently changed all my thermostats to digital, so I decided to purchase 15 Noma Thermostats at Canadian Tire. In the last 2 months, 5 of the thermostats had to be returned due to malfunctions. Either the screen goes blank or the thermostat overheat and the room is really warm. I would not recommend this product to anyone. I am dissapointed that Canadian Tires keeps such an unreliable product."

Easy to program? Ummm. NO!

"This thermostat is easy to install. But that's where it ends. Nothing else is easy about it. I have to manually turn off the thermostat every morning. I can see the buttons breaking soon due to repetitive use.

Instruction manual on setting up the 7 day programming is incorrect. Either you use the default pre-programmed settings or you only have one day programmed.

The "copy feature hardly works and it does not work as described in the manual. It's all but useless. I've been trying to reach UPM (that's the name of this company, NOT NOMA!! and have them resolve this issue) and I'm very frustrated.

Aside from that (which is a real BIG problem and justifies, imo not to buy), this thermostat has a really cool feature where it starts to warm up your room when it gets close the desired temperature.

I dunno who's writing that this thermostat is easy to program, but it is NOT. Maybe they have a different manual but the online version of my printed manual is the same.

Overall, I do NOT recommend this product"

Sticking buttons

"Users of this model of thermostat should be really careful when adjusting the temperarute, I noticed at some point that the temperature up button was stuck and the temperature in the house was 32deg C.

Be very careful when adjusting the temperature and ensure that the buttons do not stick."

Work OK, Look great

"I bought two of these. One has worked perfectly for about a year. The other basically overheated somehow. The screen went blank and wouldn't shut off the heat. The room was like a sauna when I found it. I had to turn off the breaker to turn it off. I ended up replacing it with a cheap dial model. Love the one that works but not sure how reliable they are."
