Don't Put Good Cutlery in Dishwasher
FYI: No, this day and age, one still does not put good cutlery in the dishwasher. The metal make-up [higher carbon] required to keep an edge as long as possible between sharpening does not allow for completely "stainless" steel. Plus the abbrasiveness of detergent can cause problems for the edge and handles. If you want to keep a good set good, then take the extra few minutes to wash them by hand [I use a handled scrubber/soap gadget so it is quick and easy]. Then dry them right after [vs allowing to set in the drainer basket]. Also use an appropriate cutting board, keep them sharp with a steel, and sharpening as needed per one's useage level.
I have generally been very impressed by the KitchenAid cutlery sets I have [which were a different set design than this one - More similar to #42-3900-0, but black handles with stainless cap], and better than the Hinckles [single guy] sets sold here - Good design, good balance and decent steel. I have a mini set I bought for my sailboat and one for my girlfriend's smaller prefference, as well as a full set for her, and one of the single santoku one's available, often on sale. I take good care of them and they are remarkable for the cost [especially on sale]. Though, keep in mind that I have NOT used this particular set, so I rated the KitchenAid styles I have used, as a rating is required to post.

GOOD AND BAD
I bought these on sale for $60 which is the good news. The bad news is that they aren't dishwasher safe. How lame is that?
I took them out of the box and was going to toss them into the DW to give them a rinse and I found a little card in the box warning me not to do this.
Really? In this day and age, why aren't all dishes and cutlery DW safe.
Stupid.

Black residue
Bought this set to replace a very old set. The old set is back on the counter and taking this back to the store. The price was right, the red went with my kitchen accessories and I washed them when I took them out of the package. My husband used them to cut cheese in the morning, seen it was leaving a black residue, he washed them again. He asked if I wanted to return them but I said, leave it for a couple of days and see if it gets better. Well its been a week and a half now, still residue! Before anyone says anything....no I did not put them in the dishwasher! I expected more from Kitchenaide! Can't imagine spending $150 at regular price!

Fantastic
Just recently purchased this set of knives for under $60. what a deal. They are very well made and extremely sharp. I was very surprised to find out that one of the knives is for cutting bread. If you know anything about bread knives they are very expensive.
