Needs fit test to really work as a N-95 mask
A N-95 mask is only useful if you had a fit test done for it. If the model is not fit for your face, it is not really better than wearing a cloth around your face, because the air will pass where the resistance is lowest (i.e. by the space between your mask and face). that is why all companies that use N-95 masks to protect their employees spend money for fit tests each year and have to ensure that their employees use the right model.
Without a fit test, a N-95 mask is just a normal mask, it does not provide the protection of a N-95.

buy them in bulk and keep them lying around
I used them for almost everything, way better than the regular cheap ones as this one is the NIOSH N95 mask, made popular in the media as of late.
Anyways, bought in bulk, like this, it makes it just as inexpensive as the "dollar store" types or the basic standard ones. Why get those when you can get a N95 rated mask.
Sometimes I don't even bother to reuse them as what most people do if they see very light one time use, as I got 20 of them to go through. I wouldn't suggest everyone to be so disposable as this, but at this price you can. A must for cleaning out the garage - alot of dust gets kicked around when you broom out the garage. Plus, during spring cleaning, alot of pollen spores agitate my nose, and this really helps alot.
Just to be clear - N95 does not filter out chemical smells and other noxious fumes. There are other masks that do that. So don't think this can filter out heavy chemical odours. It is good for particulate matter, such as dust ,pollen, etc.

The tool many people forget
We've doing a lot of sanding projects inside. I'd recommend these dust masks (or any dust masks) for anyone doing extensive wood cutting or sanding indoors with power tools. These ones fit snugly and will do an excellent job of keeping out even the smallest bits of wood dust. They are NOT good for dealing with aerosols (e.g., finishes).
