Handy Item
Bought on sale and used it to install a suspended ceiling in the family room. Was great for that. Also used it to build a deck. Only problem was that it's almost impossible to see the laser in normal daylight. So, outdoor measurements had to be done at dusk or early morning. Indoor use was no problem, though. It was easily worth the money I paid.

Level
It is a good and accurate level. I would recommend that you get the bubble as close as possible, this increases the accuracy a lot. The batteries that come with are not so good. The glasses work wonderfully. It is a great indoor level outdoors is tough to use if sunny. I do a lot of tile work and this is a great help. 100% worth it and even better when on sale.

Best tool for home improvement do-it-yourselfer
I'm pleased to suggest this tool to anyone who want's things straight.
I purchased the self leveling laser level to build a subfloor and room divisions for the basement. Used intensively while leveling the floor, the only improvement I would suggest Johnson, is to replace the AAA batteries with AA batteries, as they would last longer. With a new set of batteries, one can work for days on, as long as you turn off the power when not needed.
This tool is a must for home improvement enthousiasts. It won't remain in its storage box for long, as friends have asked to borrow it.

Very handy to set border wallpaper
Bought it on special. Used it twice so far to put border wall paper around two rooms. Made a huge difference for ease and speed of the job. I checked it a few times with an actual level (and measured from the floor) and it stayed accurate through out the job. The laser gets quite dim in a brightly room, though, so I had to have someone rotating it so the center of the beam is on or near the site of work. That's where it is the brightest. Maybe the auto-rotating model would've been best, but I got this one at half price and that made it worth it.
Handle it with care, though. It doesn't appear too solid to me. Definitely no made for professional abuse.

Very basic unit
If you require something that works at night, this unit may work for you. Anything in average light, even a cloudy day will not impress. I tried using the one I purchased on special, but took it straight back the same day. The lady at the checkout was offended when I said it was no better than a toy.
If you are semi serious about lining things up level, you may need to spend the extra dollars and get a good one. They will however cost you a lot more. Expect to pay a $400+ for a 2nd hand one (Hilti are recommended)

As good as its gonna get for consumer grade produc
With out a doubt this unit even at regular price is worth every penny. 5 out 5 for price vs all 4 measures.
I built my ENTIRE basement using this tool. As an individual who considers himself an average DIY'er and learns by watching and reading (and praying) to complete tasks this tool is a must. I learned very fast that traditional levels take skill to use and can be very expensive. One tip, if you can ensure every once and awhile that the tool is calibrated properly by checking the line with a traditional level.
I used this tool to lay out my bottom plates, top plates, plumb corners, each stud, bulkheads, ceiling tiles and grid, door frames and this list goes on, now that the basement is complete it is great for hanging pictures.
Please keep in mind this is a consumer grade product, you need fully charged batteries or the beam can be weak. If you want to use is outside no problem use it on a cloudy day OR early morning or late evening, works perfect, my picket fence that goes the entire perimeter of my corner lot is PERFECT, my deck, perfect and was able to put a 2 degree slant for water drainage.

A Real Time-saver
I've had this for about a year. I've used it to build a driveway gate, a deck, and build various things in my garage. It's very simple to use. It also seems durable, since I accidentally kicked it over once and it landed with a bang on a concrete floor. No damage done.
A nice feature is that when you rotate the power switch off, it also mechanically locks the pendulum laser assembly, so it won't get damaged. Still on the first set of batteries, so that's good.
Brightness -- generally quite adequate. Outdoors on a sunny day can be a problem. I wait until early evening and/or use the included red glasses. The glasses really help a lot to make the red laser more visible.
The carrying case is very good, and makes it very convenient to store everything together safely.

Very Pleased
I bought this level because the Johnson Rotary Laser Level Kit was out of stock at the time. While I was looking forward to having a Rotary level, when I finally got one and tried it out, I was quite disappointed with how it worked compared to this self adjusting level.
I think this level is ideal, as long as your tripod is reasonably level, it just works on its own. It shows the line on about half of the room at once, so it is no big deal to rotate the level for the other half.
The vertical line is a bonus, nothing to flip or change, it’s just there for when you need it.
I tested it out in my family room and used it to level all my pictures at once - great!. I am using it next for tiling my bathroom to keep things level.

Performs as advertised and as expected.
This is a great level which is very convenient, since when you need a vertical reference, it gives it to you, in addition to the horizontal line. As another reviewer mentioned, it can be a challenge outdoors as with any other laser level. This one is no exception. The only solution is to use it outside in the evening when the light level is lower, place the marks you need so that you can do the actual work the following day. Otherwise, it performs very well indeed. And surprisingly (for me at least), the tripod is quite sturdy even when fully extended. Level it as best you can with the bubble level in the head, and turn it on. After a few seconds, it is stable. The base is graduated every 5 degrees so that you can rotate it precisely if needed. The vertical line also extends down far enough to assist in placing tiles on a floor. One word of caution... The On-Off knob also secures the internal optical system. So to avoid damage, never handle it with the knob in the On position; this will also prevent accidentally shining the beam in someone's eye. Overall, an excellent tool... should bear the Mastercraft name!

Ok for inside
I can't compare it to other brands, since I have only used this one and Johnson "Manual levelling" Rotating unit which are on sale at the same price.
Outside (normal light) - Even using the red glasses I could not see the "+" lines.
Inside and darker, the unit worked much better. It displays constant hor. and vert. lines both at the same time-no need to flip the unit. Constant lines are better than flashing lines to get your bearings. Manually rotating the head around a room - no problem
Just level the tripod-bubble and the unit levels it self. I prefered this unit over the Johnson "Manual levelling" Rotating unit , check my other review for it.
