I'll stick to Oak. This composite axe was simply not substantial enough. The handle shattered after falling out off a small embankment, the blade remained intact, and was sharp through the first weeks of use, but one small drop and, poof, axe fragmentation. I'll stick to Oak. February 12, 2010

Underappreciated tool This little (540 gm) axe will do about 80% of what the industry leader (Granfors) will do at less than 30% of the price. The handle is more resilient than wood. I am told that further improvement in chopping performance can be achieved by regrinding the profile of the head slightly but I have not tried it yet. September 14, 2008

Great little axe This is a great little axe that I take everywhere.On the boat, camping, hunting and yes in the yard for clearing light brush and heavy weeds. I plan on buying a second one. Well built, well priced, light weight and tough. You will not be disappointed. August 31, 2008

GREAT, QUALITY AXE! This is a must have for around the garden. Lightweight and durable. I use it mainly for splitting my firewood. I smack the top of it with a hammer to split my wood. Let me tell you not any AXE would take this kind of abuse!! August 6, 2008

A great home and backpacker Garden Axe is a misnomer. While great for hucking at the shrubbery, it travels well because it is light and nearly indestructible. Nearly indestructible because its enemy is water. Wipe it off on your pants if you are lopping green wood, spray it with WD40 or cooking spray if storing. I use this little guy at home and on camping trips and have always been grateful for the quality and (lack of) weight. March 30, 2008
