Good value if bought on sale.

"In spite of reading negative reviews, I found this saw to work quite efficiently and accurately. The cuts are smoothe and the tile is kept in place quite easily. It is definitely NOT a professional device but is a very good tile saw for a DIY'er. At full price my rating would have been much lower. Because I bought it on sale, I feel it was definitely worth the money. (53% reduction off full price) If you have any other expectations from it, you'll be disappointed."

not what I hoped

"bought on sale thank god.
has the power had no real problem in the cut
BUT wish it had a clamp for repative cuts and first time using the water pump only worked half the time so I had to turn it one off on off to get the pump flowing."

Money Well Spent

"Being a novice, I was not sure how things would go. But I found this Tile Saw straightforward and easy to use. As long as you mark your tile accurately, the saw cuts where you guide it. It cut through Slate easily. I also used it on porcelain tiles for a tub surround and was amazed at how great the tile saw did what I wanted it to do. Great purchase! Saved me big $$$ by doing it myself."

Works fine, really needs better adjustment points

"The only problem I had with this saw is the lack of adjustments.

Lots of power (and noise), and the water stream is properly direct downwards to the tile surface. Cutting is easier with the blade on the topside so you can see the cut marking lines w.r.t blade. If you can buy it on sale, its a bargain.

The water feed tube can bind (on top guides) and you can inadvertently pull on the water pump when you slide the blade forward. If you don't notice it and pull too hard, you will break the pump's tube fitting.

The table, saw and slide guides were not "true" (ie. 90 deg blade to deck, and 90 deg overhead slide to blade, and blade guides parallel to table). So out of the box, the saw would drift 3/16" over an 18" cut. You can adjust the "trueness" (a little) using the mounting bolts and front guide stops, but its very very inconvenient . Some of mounting nuts are on the bottom side, forcing you to remove the plastic tray). A few top side wing-nuts would have remedied this problem.

The table guide channels easily become plugged with debris and will jam the guides. A little water pressure and tapping will clean them out and free up the guides."

Absolute Waste of Money

"This is a piece of junk. I have done 2 jobs with this saw and it is already falling apart. I share some of the same comments as others who have rated this product below average. Here are some of the problems I’ve encountered.

1. The pump casing cracked after the first 30 minutes of use. I had to take it apart and glue and tape it back together.
2. The mitre gauge clamp broke. They use a cheap plastic screw handle which cannot possibly stand up to normal wear and tear when trying to secure the mitre gauge. It is something you absolutely need in order to fasten a workpiece and keep it aligned. Screw it down even with modest pressure and it cracks. Cheap, cheap, cheap.
3. Same thing happened to the clamp assembly. Tightened down the screw handle and it broke.
4. The Rails stick. Can’t figure this one out. Tried a little lubricant and it still sticks. Cleaned the rail too.
5. Two of the rubber feet broke off. I looked and noticed they are fastened on to the body with a short screw. Just moving the saw around can easily break the feet. They are that fragile.
6. This unit is hard to clean. You have to unbolt the work surface from the tray and disconnect the hose in order to properly clean the unit. I tried flushing it with a hose but it isn’t easy. You have to remove the tray in order to clean the unit properly.

I got this unit on sale. I bought it around March of 2010. I’m glad I didn’t pay full price. It passes itself off as a professional wet tile saw, but in my opinion is anything but. I suppose I could get replacement parts or get it fixed under warranty but in all honesty, the same problems will happen again. This is just like I said at the first, a piece of junk."

Good - needs tune-ups to be VERY good.

"On sale this saw is a good value. Out of the box it works OK, but....
Improvements:
(Note that when you make any physical changes you will likely void your warranty. Also, any electrical work should be done by qualified people as product certification and safety are at stake.)
1. Water delivery system is weak - As others have indicated. Solution: I drilled out the black plastic fitting & added a brass tube to extend (abt.9mm) the water jet closer to the blade. Make it adjustable for other uses*.
2. Servicing the water pump means getting inside the power switch box. I rewired my pump by adding a seperate water tight cord & plug. This allows for easier replacement, or use of external water bucket, or completely OFF - for other uses* of this saw.
3. Blade Misalignment: The aluminium cast 7/8" blade hub was not runing true on my saw. The 5/8" steel hub was much better. Also, the original blade had some distortion so it had a noticable wobble. Together, they were out 30-45 thou. Enough to cause vibrations, chipping, etc.
Solution: (a) I trued up the Al. hub on my hobby lathe.
(b)The motor & blade can be adjusted 10-15 thou. to run parallel to the table via the 4 large screws on top that bolt the motor to the top rails. You will need 3 hands to do this.

All together, I now have only about 5 thou.variance -which is OK for this grade of machine.

I have done a lot more to/with this saw and It is very flexible beyond tile cutting.
Because of the flexiblity and ease of customizing, to your needs, I can rate my modified saw a 5 star saw.
But be sure to wear eye & ear protection as it is really a modified circular saw and is NOISY!

A note of SAFETY... Watch the direction of blade rotation - in some applications this is a climb cutting saw (Particulary with blades with teeth ) and you may need to cut in the opposite direction to that of tile cutting. Also, I take no responsibilty for your mods or your use or any consequences thereof.

P.S. Fix the front end stops as they are now bevelled to help retain tiles but will cause errors in squareness with varing thicknesses of materials or slight warpage. Add square angles or sq. tube, in front to correct this. Clamp or bolt after squaring to track.

Decent for the price

"First of all, buy it on sale. It won't hurt your feelings as much as you use the saw and discover the shortcomings.
I have used this saw for about 800 square feet of stone, ceramic, and porcelin tile work to date. Most of the work was done on the 45, so a lot of cutting required. It does have shortcomings in it's accuracy, and build quality. These are easy to overcome once you figure out that it isn't dead square to the table, or dead flat on the table surface. I simply mark the required cuts and eyeball as I cut.
I have not found as many issues with the water delivery to the blade as others have mentioned. This is in part evident in the fact that I am still on the original blade the saw came with after 800 square done.
This saw is what it is. It is priced for a middle of the road product, and obviously will not have the build quality or features of a pro saw costing 2 to 5 times as much. Some of the reviews here seem to be posted by pro's looking to save a buck, and for their requirements, it does come up short.
Overall, a middle of the road product for the sale price."

"I've had a couple of wet saws now, and this one seems to have given me the least issues. The squares that come with it are a little gimmicky as I find it's better to rely on your eye than using them (for angled cuts). In the end I have an amazing looking floor and I look forward to using it again!"

Good Buy

"For the price, it is a "Good" to "Excellent" product. Only design flaw is instructions re: water level apparently aren't printed clearly enough for some... Plug in bottom of pan leaks a bit, but hey, its a "WET" saw. Don't set it up in your living room. As with all power tools, wear hearing protection, very loud even when running under no load.

You can quickly recoup the cost of the saw through a few days of not having to rent a saw from another retailer. Lets you work at your own speed, which probably leads to fewer mistakes, and again saves money in the long run."

Question:

1 /18" @ 90deg and 3/4" @ 45deg.

You could insert 1" spacers to lift the end supports off the table to gain an extra 1" cutting depth.

Answer:

By geometry using magnified photos and scale derived from the 7" blade radius, I calculate max. cut depth below the 2" blade washer and the table is 2" .

This assumes that the front blade splash guard can be removed from the blade guard, exposing the blade for cutting below the washer.

Answer:

No, cutting glass requires a special blade all the time. You may actually cut the tile, with a regular blade, but the blade will get dull very very quickly.

It's always best to cut glass tile with a diamond glass blade. This will reduce tear out and chips in your tile.

What is the max tile size that will fit?

Question:

The frame and brackets seem like they would limit the size of tile that could be cut - I am considering an 18" square floor tile for an upcoming project, would this tile size fit through this saw?

18" will just fit. I have been using 16" slate, and there is about 2 to 21/2 " left before the saw

The maximum cutting length is 18 ½”. The maximum diagonal cutting length (at 45 degrees) is 13"

Answer:

I just used the saw for cutting 18 x 18 tiles - no problem - you may not be able to cut angles in these subject to the specific cut, other than parallel cuts to edges.
You could try angles with a small angle grinder 4 1/2" with diamond blade (Mastercraft angle grinder one I bought was only $29.99 + blade for about $42)
