My choice
My first choice when it comes to cordless tools. I, as a rule buy lithium batteries. They out perform any other.

Good product
Good product overall. Battery life is pretty good too.
First project I used this on was mounting a new 70" TV to the wall.
This device aided me quite well.

Maybe I bought a lemon
The drill feels great in your hand and the light is certainly handy. I was disappointed in the lack of torque from day one, but the drill performed reasonably well overall. That is until it burned out three weeks after I bought it. I never used it for anything more than driving 3.5 inch screws into new 2 by 4s, while framing my basement. I took it back to CT and came home with an 18 volt Hitachi - a superior drill to this one. Sad to say, but I think I've turned my back on Dewalt for good.

great lightweight drill with long battery life
This small but powerful drill provides great hand comfort for the user and it is a must have for those who need one to use in the house. It has lithium ion battery instead of nickel cadmium which makes it very light and more efficient with longer battery life. It charges in about 30 minutes and it weighs only 3.4 lbs which makes it very easy to work in small areas.
It is only about 7-8 inches long from the back to the front and this ergonomic size delivers fantastic balance and control. You really need to feel one in your hands to understand the importance of this feature.
It also has an LED light and an on board bit holder that I find very useful because I constantly change between a small drill bit, square drive bit and philips bit.

Compact design, but high performance
This drill is surprisingly small but very powerful. It has what you would expect from DeWalt:
• Good weight
• High torque
• Excellent variable speed control, esp. in the lower speed setting
• Strong ½ inch chuck that has no slippage or run out (a weak spot on some DeWalt drills)
• Great balance
• Comfortable grip, even for people with small hands.
• Light weight compared to any 18V drill, which is great when doing overhead work
The only real weak spot is the clutch. It isn’t too reliable. You can set it to the lowest setting, and it’s quite possible to overtighten screws and strip the hole. This isn’t a problem when doing large jobs (think deck screws or lag bolts), but it is a problem for more delicate woodworking tasks like assembling furniture or screwing together a face frame.
We’ve only had the drill a month, so we can’t say a lot about the life expectancy of the batteries. The lithium ion batteries are much lighter than nickel cadmium batteries but stay at peak power much longer than NiCads, charge much faster (full charge in 30 min), and have no problems with memory effect. The only problem is that we’ve heard that Li ion batteries have a definite shelf life and replacements are expensive. (That's the only reason we gave it 4 stars for durability.)
