Bad start but OK now.

"Within 2 months of purchasing this product the battery started to perform poorly. Then it would not hold a charge at all. I returned the product and CTC replaced the battery free of charge. Since then it has performed well. The charge life is good and the torque is excellent. I can recommend this product if Canadian Tire continues to replace free of charge the parts which fail."

"The battery completely died within 8 months of minimal/residential use. I also did not like the feel and balance of this drill. I found it very awkward and difficult to balance. I wish I never bought this drill and will never buy one again."

Inconsistent for 2.5 years then dead

"Bought this set in October 2008. As a cordless drill, it has worked well. I like the LED light, however, it does not have a tool magnet on it like I had on my older unit.
The battery would not hold a charge as long as I would have liked.
About a year ago it started acting up: It would "stall." It would start again when I released and re-squeezed the trigger. The battery charger would flash red and not charge the battery. Strangely though, if I plugged the charger into a different outlet, it would charge my battery again.
Now, it won't charge at all, regardless of what outlet I plug it into.

I was told there were no recalls on the batteries or charger.
It has a 5 yr. warranty, so I'm not sure if I will get another one or ask for a refund."

Battery Life Needs Improvement...

"I purchased a cordless drill set as a Christmas gift for my husband. It was an 18 volt Mastercraft compact cordless drill/driver. The product number is 54-2995-2. The product claimed to have two hours of continuous use when the battery was fully charged. This was not the truth. In fact, the drill barely gave you thirty minutes of continuous use. You can imagine how frustrating this can be when in the middle of working on a project. This product would have been much more efficient if it came with two batteries. Therefore on a scale of 1-5 I rate this product a 2. Two batteries and longer usage time from a fully charged battery would have improved my opinion of this product. I was extremely dissatisfied with this drill and do not recommend this product to anybody."

don't waste your money

"Should have listened to the folks who said they had trouble with the switch on this drill... on the second use it failed and couldn't use in forward or reverse .... A contractor friend just bought a DeWalt (top of the line) and it sounds like the bearings are going after only a month of use... I guess I'll try a Makita next,,,"

"The drill worked excellent. Lasted a long time between charges until the battery would no longer take a charge after only 9 months. I debated whether to buy another one when it was on sale but decided I would be spending good money after bad so I went back to Dewalt and it's reliability."

Only 10 month life span, my battery was dead ...

"This drill looks very cool, but the battery could not last long. I bought one last boxing day. I didn't use it often. This June I found red light was flashing when it charging, I push the battery down, it began to charge. Last week the battery was dead. I couldn't find the receipt. A new battery is $99.99, that's the price I bought the whole package."

"I've had this drill for over a year and it has performed very well. Has lots of power and seems to hold a charge for a very long time in between uses. Nice wide range of torque settings. Haven't had any issues so far and would recommend it to friends."

Great drill, great value

"Very solid drill with ample power. Lithium Ion provides maximum power right until the battery dies. The battery has a power indicator light (based on a scale of 4) and this can be hard to read - I suggest testing in right after charging so you can see what the lights look like at all stages of charging.

I would caution that if you are looking for maximum power from a cordless, that you should be looking to buy an impact drill. That being said, this drill does deliver adequate power and performance for the price!"

Good Drill

"Bought this so I would have a dedicated drill for my wood working projects. Use it daily and love it. I have had no issues at all and the charge time is great. I was able to snag this a few months ago for $89.99 on blow out sale. Can't go wrong at that price."

Yes, it has. The keyless ratcheting chuck has both an automatic lock and manual lock feature. This is a really good Li-Ion drill!

Answer:

Only 1 battery comes with it. It does recharge quickly. The problem is, the charger is junk; I had mine replaced twice in 1 yr. under warranty and the battery once. Now the actual drill is broken. I have started using a 15 yr. old Makita that has never failed me. The only problem is the Makita has a short battery life but does charge in 1hr. I wish I didn't break my Ryobe I had for 12 yrs. It fell 24ft and still worked; just that it had a crack in the housing.

Answer:

It comes with only one battery. It has a charge indicator though that lets you see the amount of charge remaining. Because it is Lithium Ion, the power lasts far longer than a Ni-Cad battery, and has held its capacity for the last year without any signs of weakening.

1. But it has a 30 minute re-charge so you don't really need a second battery too badly most of the time.

Also, as a Li Ion battery it has no memory. So you can stick it in the charger each night and don't have to worry about fully draining it before a re-charge.
