Unexpected Surprise

"Having just moved and not having the cash to pick up both a high-quality air impact gun AND a decent air compressor, I was looking for a temporary stop-gap measure to save time when working on my vehicles and to deal with a stubborn axle nut. When this thing came on sale I had low hopes for it to really work, but boy was I surprised! Like many other reviewers have said, it ripped off my lug nuts like they were finger-tight, and even pulled off my rusty 34mm axle shaft nut like nothing. The best part was that I was never waiting for full air pressure, like I've often had to do with high-powered air impact guns in the past.

It's a beast though, don't kid yourself, and it's quite a bit larger than the equivalent air tool so it doesn't work in tight spaces very well. I couldn't, for example, reach one nut with it because the wheel-well wasn't deep enough to fit the long case of this tool. But for changing tires alone it was a great investment for me, and the torque has so far proven to be strong enough for my needs (however, I haven't tried to remove my struts yet with it). Just as a reminder, if you're going to change your tires with this you should invest in a torque wrench for tightening as it almost certainly will put out way more torque than the manufacturer specifies for your lug nuts. For example, my lugs are spec'd to 100 ft lbs, but this thing will put out 240. If you do that too many times you'll be dealing with busted studs and that isn't much fun.

It's also quite heavy, and I had to help my four-year-old son hold the tool when he was removing lug nuts for me. But even so, the machine wasn't prone to twisting in his hands like some air impacts I've used before.

Of course, I can't speak to durability as I've only had it for a few days, but it's built quite solidly so I expect that it should last me a few years, given how infrequently I'll probably be using it.

All in all, a great tool."

Perfect for hobbyists with no air

"With this unit going on sale all the time for $50 - $70, the â€œhobby mechanicâ€ working on his own vehicle in the driveway or garage canâ€™t go wrong. No, itâ€™s not going to perform like a quality air impact gun, but it will run rings around a $50 air impact gun.

Initially, it appears that the torque rating is overly generous. And it is. But if you just stay on that stubborn bolt/nut, it generally WILL get it off. Certainly easier/faster than a cheap air impact. Again, knowing the product is key. Itâ€™s not intended for shop use for full-time mechanical use, even though I do know someone that did use his for years in that environment without a problem.

If you have a small air compressor that isnâ€™t going to provide the air required to keep pushing a decent air impact gun for any amount of time, or donâ€™t have a compressor/air impact gun at all, this tool will serve you very well."

Very impressed with this impact wrench!

"I purchased this to remove a stubborn 22mm flange nut on the top of my VW GTI front strut. I couldn't make this flange nut budge with my ratchet set, special VW socket, and a 7mm allen, even after hitting it with PB blaster, WD40, hammers, and even the torch! The bolt just wouldn't budge with hand tools!

However I purchased this impact wrench with minimal hopes that it would work. It took the thing off in 2 seconds with a 22mm deep impact socket! I was SHOCKED and very, very happy!

Don't let the fact that it's electric put you off. This drill was able to muscle off my 22mm strut bolt with ease! I purchased this on sale and it couldn't of been on sale at a better time!"

Great value - great power!

"Highly recommend this. I have been using it for 3 years now. Tires changes on two vehicles (twice a year) as well as whenever I need to fire lag screws in to deck posts.

Incredible power. One point to note is that this is a 7A tool, so it is big - and heavy, but it is very powerful!!

This does go on sale from time time to time (up to 70%) off."

"Bought this to change tires in spring and winter. Just changed over to winter tires, tool did an excellent job loosing all nuts with only one or two pulls. Made changing tires a breeze."

WORKS SO WELL...

"I have read a couple of reviews on here that says it doesn't work well! When I hear this I think that you brought a faulty one and you should exchange it! The reason is, is because this impact wrench is a BEAST! I recently used it to remove bolts on a rusty exhaust, that hadn't had the bolts removed in more than 10 years of winters, the bolts were fused together I do mean stuck like you need to cut them off! and this thing just ripped them right off!!! I couldn't believe it, I actually had cutting tools ready for these bolts but this thing just took them right off! I then used it on an old garage door same thing fused bolts not possible to take off by hand just like the exhaust and it took them right off! I was surprised I got mine free with the impact socket set (you must have impact sockets to use for this gun, reg sockets won't work don't waste your time) and I thought at most it was good for just wheels and tires, but I decided to give it a try on the exhaust, figured why not if it works great if not cut them off! and man this thing is WICKED.

Oh I should say I work on cars weekly I track and race cars and have been wrenching for 18 years! I have just about every tool imaginable, this is a good one to add to the Chest. Also if it doesn't work like a couple of the reviews said, there is obviously something wrong with it take it back and swap it, because trust me it's a beast! 240ft of torque! an air gun is not much more in power for a normal set up!!! go look at the ratings they have yourself!

for the ratings, over all it's wicked, I have only used it a handful of time so for now, i can't really say if it's going to last! so I marked it down. As for quality it;s good but the new maximum one looks better quailty wise..."

Limited Torque Capacity

"This is a great tool for wheel nuts and nuts smaller than 7/8". It doesn't have enough torque for heavy jobs. It won't loosen the nuts on my riding mower blades (1-1/8")"

Not for mechanics

"I don't know exactly what your suppose to use this for, but it does not do anything for mechanic jobs. It doesn't loosen tire nuts. It doesn't have enough power. Unfortunately if you want a air gun you have to get an air gun. None of these electrical products come close.

Returned mine after first use."

grease all over it

i bought this a few days ago and there happens to be some motor grease on the guns head and tip. is it suppose to be like this or should i return it?

That would not be uncommon, simply wipe it down. Grease will keep moisture and thus rust at bay.

the gun has grease in it and on the tip due to the ball lock! may have had a little too much added during the manufacturing process. If the gun works fine then just wipe the grease off and you should be good to go! grease on tools is not a bad thing

Grease on the drive doesnâ€™t indicate a fault. It can happen due to high temperature caused by heavy usage or environmental conditions. The grease can run out if the tool is stored with nose down. Note: If it becomes necessary to repack the drive with grease, a tablespoon of #2 lithium or high quality wheel bearing grease will do.

Why does this impact wrench stop spinning for a few seconds, when trying to remove lug nuts

I recently bought this impact wrench, and used it to remove my lug nuts on car. It eventually removed the lug nuts, but the head would intermittenly stop spinning for a few seconds and then start again. Is this normal, and if so why?

no this shoudl not happen! typically this means the fail safe is kicking in becasue the internals are shorting or over heating. Take it back and swap it if you are still in warrenty period.

This is normal. It's the "impact" action that loosens the nuts before allowing them to spin off.

That does not appear to be normal, mine does not stop after a few secconds. i'd suggest you read the manual to see if there is any "overload safety" or anything of the sort. mine doesnt need to be run for more than about 3 seconds before the lug nut comes off or is sufficiently tightened.

Car manual says maximum torque of 100 for my lug nuts. Would this be too much of a torque on the bolts that it could potentially strip/snap the bolts?

I answered a simlar question, this tool should be used for removal not really to put bolts on.

My advice is this, put the nut on the wheel, blip the trigger until you can visually see that the botl is almost tight (before the gun starts to hammer) then tighten the rest of the way by hand.

So yes this has too much tourqe to apply all the way, in my opinion

Don't fully tighten the nuts with this tool. Snug up the nuts and then use a torque wrench set to 100 lb-ft.

don't ever trust this one to torque the lug nuts use the torqur wrennch. use this impact wrench just to remove the lug nuts.

Don't worry, it will handle it when removing it. But remember to use torque wrench when putting tires back on. Use the wrench to tighten them but provide final touch with the torque wrench to ensure correct torque was applied for safety.

Don't use the impact wrench to "tighten" your lug nuts. You can use it to get them started, but USE A TORQUE WRENCH TO ENSURE THEY ARE TIGHTENED CORRECTLY!!

I use the impact wrench ONLY to remove the lug nuts from my wheels. Use a torque wrench at the recommended setting as the final step to install the lug nuts. I use 80 lbs-ft as recommended for my car (Honda).

It really depends on the size of the nuts, the larger they are the more torque they can typcially handle. However 100lb/ft does land in the range of being a non-typical setting so it maybe worth confirming with a tire shop or the dealer.

Yes. The trigger is a rocker type. Press the bottom of the rocker to tighten, press the top of the rocker to loosen.

Can't take the lug nut off ??

Lots of people using this to take lug nut off, but mine doesn't have that much torque to take 80lb-ft nut off my wheels. Any people with the same problem with mine??

If you use this impact driver to screw them back on... it should not be a problem to take them off. But if you screwed them using a bar, I can understand that it would be difficult to take them off after with the rust and all !

I have yet to encounter a bolt that would be too tough for this wrench. 80lb-ft should not be a problem. I guess your bolts could be rusted to the point where you might have to use an alternative method (i.e. heat, hammering, etc) to break of the bond between a rusted bolt and the rim, before using this wrench.

Make sure that you use a proper extension cord. Use the shortest lenght possible, and the biggest caliber possible (I would not exceed 12 gage for this unit).

I kept my RX7's nuts set to 70lbs and had to leave the wrench on for a couple seconds before it would start to spin. Leave it on the nut for a while and the "impact" action should break it loose. I had severely seized lug nuts on another vehicle and it took about 10 seconds to break each loose.
