"I was skeptical of the performance as I have always relied on pneumatic impact wrenches. However, when this went on sale I figured I would give it a try. It took the wheels off my wife's car with total ease. The only thing that could be better is the direction switch could lock into position a little tighter because a couple times I accidentally switched directions. Other than that it is a great tool. I would recommend it to any DIY."

"I bought this being quite skeptical on the power but it works great!

I bought this own sale a while back and have already used it for about 2 seasons of tire changing on 3 different cars. Works like a charm from removing lugs from our small sedan to a full sized SUV. I also used it to install a muffler, worked great as well.

My friend keeps on borrowing it for his tire change as well, I see the version without the sockets on sale so I need to tell him to get his own!"

Great buy

"I got this for $40. I was initially looking for a cordless compact driver for screws soon realized cordless tools sometimes don't have the same torque, they are expensive, the batteries are not always interchangeable. For the few times I need it for driving long screws its worth pulling out the extension cord. I used this driver for changing over my tires and it worked awesome.....I wasn't sure if it would have enough torque for lug nuts but when I checked the tightness with my old speed wrench I was wondering why I couldn't have bought this 20 years ago for $40.......what a time saver even if I only use it for tires."

Good Impact for price

"I picked this impact up for $39.99 about 2 years ago. Have used it for removing tires, random hobby jobs around the house and at work. It is great for disassembling the machines I work on. I use it on bolts up to 36mm.
It is pretty small compared to some other ones I have used. The only downfall I have with it, is that it gets quite hot when used for long durations.
But it is still a good impact for the price."

Pleased with the performance

"Very good value for money when it goes on special for ~$40.
Does VERY good job when it comes to putting 3-1/4" screws, tried it with up to 19mm nuts. So far so good! The bits and sockets don't get seized. The bit adapter works fine.

CONS:
1) it gets quite hot if used continuously. I had to let it cool down after 20-30 minutes of driving floor screws (8 x 1-1/4).
2) the trigger has very short low speed displacement, so a slight press on it would make the motor run at high RPM even when you don't need it (ex.: when you just start driving the screw, so the screw would fall off). So, be careful."

not enough torque ?

"I took the snow tires off my Honda Accord today . It would not loosen the nuts , nor would it tighten them . But once I loosened them by hand it did a snappy job of taking them off , and reinstalling them. I also had to tighten them by hand.

I used a 30 foot extension cord , but I don't think that was the problem since the socket just spun around. I had figured on tightening by hand anyway just to make sure they were tight."

great buy a must have

"i just bought this the other day and it was on sale for 39.99 regual 138.99 and worht every penny.

my old air impact has been giving me a hard time, and this thing is rated for 220 foot pounds and does the job all to perfect for pullig lug nuts.

and when you put them back on is does set them around 80 foot pouinds which is pefect so this way i can just take the tourqe wrench and set the nuts properly afterwards.

i doubt this thing can pull axel nuts but i dont care cause iam going to be buying the more powerfull version of this impact gun for that cause the other one is rated for 380 foot pounds which is about whats need for axel nuts to come off with out problems..
the features on this are simple and thats fine with me,i dont want extra toys on tools any how, so if you need a gun for pulling wheel nuts as long as you are with in the rated power for this gun it will defentally do the job for you and make life eaiser.

it also saves me from hauling out my airtank and like i said my air impact right now needs to be repaired or replaced so this thing is a life saver for sure,,

it would have been nice to see metric and SAE socket s with this kit but I cant really complain either i didnt buy it for the sockets i needed the impact but still a set of each size would have been more to the benifit as not all cars are SAE for the lug nuts infact very few newer model cars are .. either way its still the best bang for the buck and impact sockets are not the expensive any how..

great job canadian tire keep up the good work i will be doing a youtube video review as well of this tool .."

"Bought this at special price and it worked like a breeze! I used it to change tires without any problem. Removing nuts hasn't been an issue. The only thing you may want to check is the tightness of nuts. I found they're not evenly tightened."

Great tool BUT

"After reading some other reviews I decided to pick it up on sale for 40$. Great deal.

Changing my tires was never so easy. I have 19mm wheel nuts. THEN I decided to do my wifes tires. 21mm wheel nuts. NO GO. couldn't take off her nuts. BUT I tested her torque and they were way too tight.

SO if your nuts are torqued withing range you'll be fine. Got the little 2 ton jack for 25$ and tire changing is a breeze now."

Product #54-1216-4 - is the torque adjustable?

Question:

Why some of these answers keep mentioning about the torque of this tool is set to 80 ft-lbs or so. I thought this tool is featured with 220 ft-lbs as what the product description says. Is the torque of this tool can be adjusted?

Changing Tires 2011 Oddyssey

Question:

First time DIY switching tires between snow and all season for my new 2011 Oddysey. I'm thinking of getting this tool, I will double check with the manual if this has sufficient torque for the job. Any tips and tricks would be much appreciated.

Answer:

Should be fine as long as your lugs were not way way over tightened. Normall lugs are set to about 80 ft pounds of torque. If they are tightened to spec then there is no problem.

Answer:

Check the manual for the torque, but I am quite sure that the tool has more than enough of it. However, to make sure that you tighten the wheel nuts to the specified torque, you need wrench tool, e.g. Mastercraft 1/2 in. drive torque wrench, since the impact tool does not come with the torque setting/display. If you need impact wrench only for changing tires, you should probably get impact wrench with torque display.

Torque - How to tell if torque is right

Question:

Great reviews and all used to change their tires which would be a primary use to owning this tool. My question is do you also need a torque wrench to determine ft pounds or does the impact wrench come with a torque setting?

Answer:

You need a torque wrench. NEVER use an impact to tighten lug nuts. You may over tighten them and snap the wheel stud. You can either use a torque wrench, torque stick to use with the impact or get the Mastercraft impact with the digital torque gauge. Product #54-1265-6.

Yes, you need a torque wrench to determine ft pounds, since the tool does not come with the torque setting. Get Mastercraft 1/2 inch torque wrench for this job.

Answer:

you always must use a tourwe wrench to do the finel set up on your tires so the answer is yes , this one puts them to about 80 foot poounds and most cars are set around 100 foot pounds, if you over tighten the nuts you can damage your rims, so never even try to use and impact gun to set them always use a ourwe wrench and your manule for your car and all the hanynes manules will tell you the foot pounds for your car, also alot of aluim rims or Mags are not always set to 100 foot pounds, so buy a decent tourque wrench for finel tourqe set up of the wheel nuts, over 80% of all the nuts and bolts on a car or truck or suv etc etc, all have specific tourqe settings that must be followed,

Answer:

You'll need a torque wrench to tell if the tires haven't properly tightened. The impact driver itself doesn't come with a torque reading or setting. The safest way is to check with a torque wrench.

Answer:

This unit will not be powerful enough to loosen wheel nuts. It will, however, tighten them up but has no adjustable torque settings. ALL wheel nuts should be torqued with a torque wrench after installation.
