What is the rate for the 103 amp hour capacity?

Answer:

The Group 24 650 MCA (10-2493) and 1000 MCA (10-2495) batteries are not rated by Ah because they are "starting" batteries.

The Group 24 (10-2499), 27 (10-2799) and 31 (10-3199) dual purpose and/or deep cycle batteries are rated at 70, 100 and 115 Ah respectively (20 hr rate).

How long to charge a Nautilus battery?

Question:

I have a 730 crank 160 hr reserve battery, 5 moths old. It needs to be charged. I would like to know the settings with a 12 Volt or booster? And for how many hours. I have a 39 Canadaian manual charger.

Answer:

You should charge the battery between 10-15 amps. Hard to say how long it will take because it depends on the state of discharge, condition of the battery, temperature, etc. I'd guess anywhere from 6 to 15 hours. If your charger is automatic, it will shut off when the battery is fully charged. If it is manual, you'd better keep an eye on it.

Would this be suitable to run an electric trolling motor or should I be looking at a bigger battery?

Answer:

This is NOT a battery you would wish to use with a trolling motor, RV, power inverter, etc. This is a starting battery, and for those types of applications where the battery would be charged and then partially discharged (50% or more), you would need a Deep Cycle battery.

The difference is that a starting battery is not meant to be discharged and re-charged very often, as it will significantly reduce the life of the battery. Some starting batteries can handle no more than 10-15 deep cycles before they are essentially useless. Do yourself a favor and spend the extra $30 and get a mid-range deep cycle battery, and you will not regret it.

This battery should be used for starting motors only, or in applications where it will not stand more of a drop than 5% full charge.

I wouldn't think so. Starting batteries are meant to give a great deal of power in short spurts, where deep cell batteries are meant for trolling motors, that draw a small amount of power over a longer period of time
