This has become my most used, go to bag.
My reason for purchasing this bag was for my children, and I was unsure of its quality just by reading the description . . . You Know how that goes. I have used this bag in my Four Season Jungle Hammock only, and that is the best test as the compression of the bed of the bag against the bed of the hammock, diminishes the insulation value, extremely. But with the proper setup, I can compare this bag to my Down bag and my synthetic winter bag that is rated comfortable at -18c, and extreme survival to -40c.
I have had this bag for a couple of years now. This bag performs awesome to its rating -5c, and has become my go to bag for mild winter, spring and fall usage. I like that it is roomy, has a messed/zippered foot ventilation, and a mummy style, head area, with draw cord, which helps to get it to those lower temperatures. The big bonus for me is the center entry zipper which only goes 5/8 the length of the bag. The non zippered leg area aids in retaining heat, and the top center zipper works well in a hammock, as when you are a little on the warm side you can unzip and have the opened material a little on each side, or lay loosely over you. There is an added bonus with the small pillow built in as the hammock bed under tension is hard on the back of my head.
As stated I purchased this bag for my children, and as they don’t camp much, the sale price caught my attention. I now use this bag a lot, and would not hesitate to purchase again or recommend, even at the full price.
As an informative side note: years ago I used 2 bags rated at -8c, one inside the other and was comfortable to -37c. That is to say I have a lot of sleeping bag experience, and again do not hesitate to recommend this bag, to its temperature rating. (~:
