Great for Soccer

"I purchased this shelter for use at soccer games and it has been great. With a little practice one person can put it up or take it down in just 2 or 3 minutes. With two or more people, it takes less than a minute. It will fit inside the sturdy bag even with the cover attached to the frame. With the feet sercured to the ground with the supplied plated nails, it can stand up to a strong wind with no problem. If it gets really windy, the guy ropes can be used, although the stakes supplied are a bit small. One of the best features of this shelter is that the cover is tight enough that no water collects on it. The side panel is very useful when it is rainy and windy and it is easy to attach. The shelter is light enough that it is easy to handle, but it is sturdy enough for repeated use. This is an excellent choice for a soccer coach."

Happy & had for 3 yrs

"I bought mine 3 yrs ago on sale & it was worth every penny. I go to many outdoor dog shows & this has been the best thing at all of them. Great shade & the rain protection has lasted 3 years with a spring application of spray waterproofing. You can’t expect it to last forever. I have had 6 adults with chairs & dogs taking shelter in rain storms & we were all dry & cozy. At the end of the first year, I was seeing a few drips, but after a spring water-proofing, no problems.
It’s really easy to put up & take down by yourself. I am 5’3” & not the strongest person & I can get it up & down in minutes. The first time will take a bit longer, but once you get the rhythm, it’s really easy.
One of the things I like about this one is that the legs & top both have easy to press buttons. I have arthritis in my hands & have no problems. However, friends with ‘first-up’ complain about the buttons that pinch their fingers on theirs (that I can't even get to depress). The good thing about the First-up is that it comes with sides. The Broadstone has one side, but you can get more that will fit, as well as screen sides.
Highly recommend this. Mine was destroyed at a show at the edge of tropical storm Irene. (Really high winds, several shelters were damaged before we could get them down.) Going to get another before the season is out."

Great Investment

"Bought last year as a shelter from the sun. Works great! Easy to put up or take down. Ordered 2 more wind walls from Broadstone. Now when it's set over edge of our dinning shelter, we have a cozy area for all, on those wet, windy days. Great for fall camping. The only thing that would make it better is if Broadstone created a wind wall with a window for light."

Does what I want it to do...

"I bought one of these (on sale) in June 2010 as a gazebo for my deck. All I expect of it is to supply shade on a sunny summer day, and it does that in spades.

I have been careful to attach the feet to the deck (deck screws and washers), and to provide a bungee brace to one corner (upwind) to help with the wind loads - I do not use the side sheet, so the cool wind just whistles through.

My table and four chairs fit comfortably underneath, keeping the rain from settling on the table and gathering dust - which becomes gunk.

I suppose in time the sun will deteriorate the top, then I will buy a new one... I don't expect miracles from this purchase, but it's easy to open and close, and will store in a very small space (in the garden shed) for the winter.

I'm very happy with my purchase."

Leaked by the 2nd use

"It was fine the first time I used it, but the next weekend it had already developed leaks. I was not rough with it, but it takes a special kind of person to pack the material back away in the original pouch.

It does go up and down very fast and easy and I don't plan to return it because of a couple leaks. We use it camping to keep our stuff dry, so a couple of slow leaks aren't terrible to our purpose."

Are replacement or extra Canopy Roofs available for this unit?

Answer:

Broadstone may not like this answer, but any replacement roof for a portable 10x10 will fit. I got one for $30. Haven't had to use it, but couldn't pass it up. Just make sure that it has velcro on the corners & tabs like your old one. Mine fit no problem.

Can this shelter be put up and taken down by 1 person alone, other than 2 people as seen in the pictures?

Answer:

I do mine alone all the time. Just lift it up (tilted) so that 3 legs are off the ground. Leave the diagonal leg opposite the one you are holding on the ground & walk it out. The other legs & top spread like scissors & as long as 3 legs don't hit the ground, moves smoothly. Click the buttons for the top first & leave the legs down. Cover with the top & walk it from one side to the other. If you are short like me, slip under it & do up all the tabs before raising the legs. Raise the legs & peg. Really easy.

Answer:

This tent can be taken down by 1 person..but PUTTING IT UP does require 2 people. It's not light enough weight where one person can pull expand the tent.
